Dr. Harvey called today.  She said that Deanna’s EC test came back positive, and she wants to treat her for it.  Unfortunately I did not think to ask for the levels, so I don’t know how high the titer is.  Basically, this just means that she has been exposed to the parasite and her body is producing antibodies to it, it does not really tell us if her nystagmus was caused by it or not.  She wants us to treat Deanna for 30 days with Albendazole, then see how she is doing then.  She is still scanning a little, but has not had any balance problems since the incident three weeks ago.

Oh dear, osprey, I am sad to hear the results were positive. But at least we know the name of the dragon needing slaying.

More prayers for you and Deanna! Hope she’s better soon!

I agree it’s so much better to know than not to know.

At least you are in great hands with Dr. Harvey. Let us know when you learn more.

                Vibes to Deanna.

We started her on the albendazole. I have been doing some reading about the treatment, and this drug can have some serious side effects, so I have to watch out for signs that she is acting sick. This drug can cause anemia and kidney problems.

What signs do you have to watch for? I’m sorry the drug has side effects like that.

We have to watch for general lethargy and/or lack of interest in food, and for trouble urinating.

Just a small update. Deanna is now done with her 30 day course of Albendazole. She came through it with flying colors, no side effects that I could see, and the nystagmus has not returned. I have to call Dr. Harvey back to find out what to do next.
