I have a white albino rabbit..His name is Mr. winters. He may be a new zealan rabbit but I’m not sure…When I get near his cage he will either stick his front paw in his water dish or urinate then rub his paw in it and splash me with it..I’m not sure if this is normal or not. He does not do this to my fiance or anyone else, just me..why does he do this??

          Is he neutered yet?

No, he is not. I live in Mcdonough, NY and there are not many rabbit familiar vets. most do the horse and cow thing.

If he’s putting pee on you, he’s likely claiming you. I’m sure someone on here can help you find a rabbit vet near enough to you. He definitely will need to be neutered though, it will get worse if not

Pardon my manners LOL WELCOME to binkybunny!!!

I read in a British rabbit care book that peeing on a person was a sign of claiming one’s mate, as well. Actually, this person described “drive-by peeing”…along with a really goofy cartoon! I’m sorry he flings pee at you…but at least he doesn’t drive-by!

I dare say this habit and your query about hair loss in Q&A are related.(???) OH, and it’s a nice way to show his affection huh?

Is his water dish right in the corner of his pen? My little boy Kramer often accidentally flicks water at me because he thinks I am coming over to his cage with a treat, so he gets very excited and tries to get as close to me as possible by getting in the corner of the cage. When he does this he usually stops paying attention and accidentally steps in his water dish, and once he realizes his feet are wet he shakes them off, which usually flings water in my face. I have not had this issue with pee though – does he pee in the corner often and possibly accidentally step on it? They will flick their paws to get the water or urine off so it may not be intentional.

In my opinion, if he’s smart enough to intentionally pee and fling it at you – you’ve got a smart bun on your hands!

well his dish used to be in the corner but he rearranges his cage. oh he is defintely a smart rabbit in his last cage he figured out how to unlock his cage by pressing the hook back out….he pees in the corner yes but ill be sittibg on the bed a good five feet away and be doing something , he pees rubs in it and flicks it at me…..

he used to lunge at me when i would go near his cage or even what looked like pawing or scratch me, i just always thought he was an agressive bunny but he has calmed down.

I was just thinking of the urine scald possibility. If he’s lost hair then the skin is more exposed to the urine causing the redness etc. Just a guess of course.

Yeh, if he’s getting pee on him that might just cause some fur loss. But not sure. Anywho when you take him for a pre-neuter check up the vet will be able to tell for sure!
