On July 26th we unfortunatly had to say goodbye to Bambi. She was left unsupervised for a few minutes out in her pen in the yard and managed to jump out, only later to be caught and killed by the neighbor’s dog. I feel so bad and guilty for not being home when this happened. I had been to KY to visit my grandfather in the hospital and came home to a dead bunny in the backyard. I had left a pet sitter in charge and told her that she can let the bunnies play in the outdoor pen as long as she supervised them. Well she let Bambi out to play and stepped inside to watch tv. Now all we can do is just remember the good times we had with Bambi and move on.

On a brighter note I just adopted a doe who is currently pregnate. She doesn’t have a name yet but she is expecting to give birth soon. Here is a picture of her:

I am so sorry next time make sure you take them with you or get a more responsible pet sitter. ((((Bunny hugs to u))))) good luck with the new bun though…What about Hazel, or Sherbert, I like strange names but they sound okay for her to me??
I wish I would have been able to take Bambi and Cocoa with me but I had to leave in an emergency. The pet sitter was house sitting for us and she had an ad in the paper. She listed that she was “responsible and trustworthy”. I had heard good things about her from our friends and neighbors. She wont be getting a job any where in this neighborhood again.
oh yeah and next time.. I’ll just leave my husband at home. He is pretty responsible
That’s terrible and at a time when you are already upset ..*HUGS*
Binky free bambi
And gosh, you have to post pics of those babies when they arrive!!
I am so sorry. What a wonderful tribute to Bambi to adopt a bun in need. She is a cutie. (((((( HUGS ))))))
How horrific for you and your bunny. I am so sorry. This is a good and horrible lesson for anyone who wants to put their buns outside is to NEVER leave them unattended for one second. I am soooo sorry. Take care.
OMG! I’m so sorry! I used to co-own a pet care company and my sitters would NEVER have left any pet outside unsupervised! As a matter of fact, company policy would have prohibited them from taking a small animal outside. They would have to play indoors because of tragedies like this.
i’m so sorry to hear about Bambi. that’s awful. what on earth did the pet-sitter say?!
Thanks everyone.
Beka27- The pet sitter apologized and she didn’t charge me for the house sitting or pet sitting. That was it.
my word. i’d feel so awful if anything like that happened… i really hope she re-evaluates her career options.
That’s terrible! Poor Bambi! My condolences…
Oh I see I am Very soory though , Please do take photos of the babys when they come…
I agree with Beka. That sitter should never be responsible for an animal again. It’s incomprehensible what she did.
I’m so sorry.
I agree about the petsitter too. That is just not right. I’m sure she did feel bad because she did behave irresponsibly by letting her out unsupervised.
i am so sorry for your loss! ***vibes***
hows it going with the pregnant bunny? what will you do with the babies? when is she due?
oh no!! I’m am SO sorry for your loss!! How terrible for Bambi to die in such an awful way!! how horrible!!
You were terribly let down by that person!! What in the world???
That same happened to one of my neighbors a few weeks ago. She demanded money from THAT irresponsible “petsitter” [don’t they have to have a license anyway??? must be insured etc…] she demanded enough money so she can at least get another bunny [she actually didn’t though]. But of course that can never make up for anything that happened. Stupid people out there…, pardon my language!!
The neighbor should be held responsible too!! Is there no leash law where you live?
Was that petsitter experienced and had references??? She should have just covered the x-pen, gee. Very careless!!
There is no licensing, besides a business license, for pet sitters. They are not required to have insurance and they aren’t regulated in any kind of way. It really is important to do a thorough interview, have the sitter to your home, ask a bunch of hypothetical questions to find out what kind of experience the sitter really has…and whether the person truly loves animals or if pet sitting is “just a job”.
When I owned my company my interviews never took less than an hour. I took a ton of time to let the people and the pets get familiar with me…and in the year I worked for myself there was only one job I didn’t get. That speaks volumes about my competition I think.
Very sad to hear about the loss of your beautiful bunny. My most sincere condolensces.
oh my gosh that is just terrible. What a dumb thing for the sitter to do in the first place.
at least she could offer to get another bun for you. Tho she probably knew it would not make up for the mistake.
Your new bun is gorgeous. Beautiful. I bet she turns out beautiful kits.
Thanks everyone..
We do have a leash law but our dogs and their dogs run around all over our joining properties. All of our neighbors own atleast 5 acres each. But I didn’t ask for any money because that wouldn’t have made things better. I was pretty much going ballistic so I’m sure that scared the heck out of her and I hope she doesn’t watch pets for anyone else.
As for the new bunny we decided to name her Daisy. It suits her right. I am not sure when she is expecting her litter but she has been nest building a sight. Daisy is really sweet and she is so much fun. She will bite and scratch when she isn’t happy but she just needs to get used to her new surroundings. Hopefully once the kits are born and weaned I can bond with her more. I haven’t been playing with her too much because I don’t want her to stress out and give birth premature.
Aww, I can’t imagine coming home to that… I’d probably go for the pet-sitter’s throat ![]()
I am so sorry to hear about your lovely bunny! ((((((prayers and hugs for Bambi)))))) I am sure she is binkying free over the Rainbow Bridge now in greens fields and sunshine.
My hubby keeps wanting me to just let a neighbor take care of our pets while we travel…I just can’t do it. I told him to take the kids and do his own traveling and I’ll watch the furbabies or forget about going. But I’ve got that choice. I just don’t trust anyone with my animals.
On the lighter note, your new doe is gorgeous and must be there to help take away the sting, and here you are to help her with a good home. I’d say that’s a perfect match.
She looks a lot like my daughter’s Pippi. What a sweet, honey creme color on her fur! All she would need would be the little lionhead tufts on her neck.
^_^ There’s gonna be some adorable little baby bunnie’s pictures plastered all over this post when they arrive, yes? ^_^
wow keep us posted!!
I am so sorry to hear about Bambi. May the angels take care of her now.
