well great. NO bun tho but a hamster. Yes maybe in time he will allow a rabbit. If not they will still be there when you are grown and on your on. Congrats. Hurrah. Hamsters can be fun. I had one that would not run away. I was sitting eating and left my plate for a sec. My hamster had grabbed my big hunk of meat and was trying to fit it into the door of his cage where it was too big to fit. Was so funny. Love those little balls they run around in.

Oh Congrats!!! I have a hamster named Sprinkles Sunshine n she is just a doll. I’m very happy for you! Definately get him or her one of those balls to run around in, they just love those. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask me since I know a bit about hamsters. Good Luck!

i have had several hamsters! they are so much fun but just be sure to pick one that seems already slightly tame and handle it ALOT! or else they will always run away and bite! Hamster bites dont feel good. the best hamster i had was a very docile long hair teddy bear hamster. she was adorable! until her balls dropped…then HE was adorable and had a girly name! lol!

i love hamsters!!! i had a few myself, teh last one being Molly the Male Hamster! yes those pesky things just showed up one day! oh whoops, she’s a boy! lol.

That is fantastic! Congrats to you. When I was about 18 I had a golden hampster. He was so cute and fun! I bought him new tunnel accessories every week. He had an amazing set up! The best part was that every week I would take ever single tunnel apart and soak it all in a warm soapy bath to clean them. Then  I would dry them all… and then I would put them back together… but NEVER did the tunnels end up back the same way again! There were too many! It was so much fun bulding fun new tunnel paths each week! He really loved his little ball that he ran around in too!

That’s great news!  I’m very glad that you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your responsibility & maturity.  We had a dwarf in our classroom named Hammie.  The kids loved him and they loved redesigning his tunnels.  He had a hammie ball and everything.  He was a lot of fun.  He would be out in his ball and Leo (rabbit) would be out running around in the classroom…..always a party!  Glad to hear your going through a rescue, many people forget that rescues get lots of hamsters.  I’d like to get one of those black teddy bear ones some day.

it has been my experience that gerbils are MUCH better pets than hamsters, thats just my opinion and possibly something to look into? They are so much more friendly and playfull whereas it takes alot for a hamster to like you and even after all that work they are too bothered about u, well that was my experience anyway. Congrats

I know with ferrets they should be housed either alone or in trios. A ferret can literally die of depression when they lose a bonded cage mate. That’s part of why I want to bond Thumper with Tank and Ranger, I have this “thing” about trios.

Just this week my trio of female rats became a set of two. I don’t know what would have happened if one of a set of two had died.

Oh, T&R’sMom, I’m so sorry about your girlie-rat! Poor thing…I’m glad the other 2 have each other… Smooches from me to them… (Is it still ok to give rats sunflower seeds? Mine used to love them, when I was a kid…but I know we’ve figured out that much of what we thought was good rat-parenting back then was all sorts of wrong…In anycase, give your sweeties a treat from me, whatever that treat may be!)
