        Hi Everyone!

Lastnight when I was sitting petting Casper, I had a look in his ears and he has 2 sores in his one ear. They are 2 little red sores and one looks like it has a bit of a scab on it.

Has anyone seen these before? And is there anything we can do? Or should we take him to the vet?

        Thanks!

It’s a little difficult to really tell just by your description but it could possibly be ear mites – is he scratching his ears?

I think it’s best to have a vet look and advise though.

Yes he is our only bunny. He doesn’t seem to be scratching them anymore then usual.

Edson occasionally has a tiny little scab from itching his ear and then it goes away as fast as it appears.  He does not have mites or anything.  His ears are perfectly healthy. I just think he itches like we all itch.  If it looks different than just a little scratch and of course if it becomes infected then that’s a different story and I would have the vet check him out.

Sometimes ear mites do not cause itching. Do you see any gunk in his ears? Brown crusty stuff at all? At more advanced stages you should see that.

How long have you had him? You said that he doesn’t seem to be scratching them anymore than usual, but if you haven’t had him that long, he could have had them from the beginning and you may have gotten used to a scratching routine that actually may not be normal.

Either way, red sores, and scabs in the ears are not normal.   I agree that you should see a vet.
