  She is pretty much back to normal. Eating well, chasing/getting chased by DJ and Curly Sue. She is still exhibiting a slight “scanning” motion from time to time, where her head will slowly turn toward the side with no eye, and then she pulls her head back to the middle position. I don’t know if she’s always done this and we never noticed it before, or if this is still part of the same problem. We see Dr. Harvey tomorrow.

  That doesn’t sound normal to me – I bet you would have noticed it before.
  
  I had a rabbit with a problem like this that I took from the sanctuary – I had her before and took her there to be adopted. Her nystagmus seemed so slight that I’m not sure other’s would have noticed it so I’m glad I was there. She would lean into her daughter. I honestly do not know what was the cause of her nystagmus – we did treatment for both ear infection and e. cunniculi. I thought she was doing well because she was eating and I was medicating her but I found her gone very quickly on Sunday afternoon (I hope this doesn’t alarm you because it’s not mean too – just to let you know that even a very slight bit of nystagmus can be problematic). I was do pen-g shots, baytril and panacur. I do think the vet did not notice any ear infection though if I remember correctly.

  I just got back from Dr. Harvey. She was amazingly thorough, doing a normal well bunny exam as well as watching her hop and doing various different pick ups to check on the strength of Deanna’s back end. She said that Deanna checks our beautifully, the only thing that is a little concerning is the head scanning behavior. She said the incident of eye scanning on Friday could have been caused by a number of things including head trauma, inner ear infection (bacterial or EC) or a small stroke. She agreed with the meds that I am currently using, so I will keep the Baytril for a total of 10 days and the Metacam for a total of 14 days. She sis a blood draw that will be sent off for an EC test. The results will take 2-4 weeks to get back. So basically, very little information, but somehow I am relieved that there is nothing obviously horribly wrong with her. Personality wise she is back to her old self, eating well, being cuddly, trying to hump DJ, the usual stuff. She still scans when she is sitting quietly, slowly side to side. Dr. harvey noticed it right away, and said it is only concerning because we’ve never noticed it before.

  Grace scans – she’s done it since we adopted her and it hasn’t caused a problem up to this point. In her case, we think it is because of her missing an eye on the one side, and being blind on the other side, she is probably just trying to stay as aware of her surroundings as possible. If she is up to humping she must be feeling much better!

  I am glad to hear Deanna has the green light for normal bunny behavior. Sounds like she is doing well! We’ll keep up the noserubs just in case! (rubs Mimzy for good luck)
