My bunny Baxter is 4 months old and is starting to give me a hard time with eating alfalfa pellet and hay. He prefers to steal my other bun’s (Roo) timothy hay. Any suggestions for something that’s still high in calories since he’s still growing? We just moved to Illinois and he went to the vet yesterday and I don’t think she’s all that savy but she’s the only one within two hours drive and she didn’t give me an answer.

he can have timothy hay too. and that’s actually good that he gets used to eating it. soemone else just said that their bun was prefering tim hay… timothy hay is really the best hting you can feed them, and then give a handful of alfalfa in addition.

What do you think about the pellets though? Do you think that maybe I should mix tim and alfalfa and maybe he’ll just eat it all. I just want to make sure he puts weight on.

alfalfa pellets are not necessary at all. i think most people feed timothy pellets exclusively, and then do alfalfa hay. i don’t think you want to do both b/c that’s too high in calories.

*GASP* does not want ALFALFA??? All of my bunnies are in shock

But I think it is definitely OK, perhaps you’ve just got a health-nut on your hands! It probably wouldn’t hurt to sprinkle some alfalfa hay, or alfalfa pellets in with the timothy, but if your bun prefers timothy I think thats great! Usually there is some difficulty in getting buns to transition from alfalfa to timothy, so your lucky that your bun transitioned himself

I know it’s crazy but that’s the type of rabbit we would end up with!
