While reading through the Rabbit Rescue.ca newsletter I came upon a story about a rabbit who stopped breathing after absess surgery and was given mouth to nose cpr. Does anyone know anything about this or how it is performed? Let’s hope none of us ever need it but better safe than sorry.

i’m not sure how to do it officially… but when my grandma’s dog had puppies years ago, one was not breathing. i remember my grandma breathed into it’s mouth and revived it. i already thought my grandma was the greatest person in the world. this just confirmed my suspicions…

If it’s anything like giving CPR to an infant I assume you would cover the mouth and nose with your mouth and breath into both, the part I wouldn’t be sure about is where to push on a rabbit to move the air… I could be totally wrong though it was a few years ago when I took CPR training.

That’s exactly how it works on animals ; You want to not breath too much as the extra air goes into the stomach and I do not know about the pulmonary massage, but for breathing just breath with your mouth around their mouth and nose.

Wow littlepuffytail, what an excellent question. I’m so glad you bought this up because I wouldn’t know either and it’s so important to be prepared.

I found this article about how to perform CPR on a rabbit from the ASPCA

Thanks for finding that great article, Binky Bunny! I’m gonna have to find a picture of a rabbit’s internal structure to find out exactly where there little heart is located.
