› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › Pictures of my Bun and the new cage
So I’ve been posting for a while now but haven’t had the chance to post any pictures. I don’t have a digital camera (probably the only person in the world that doesn’t lol) so these pictures are from my cell phone. The quality isn’t that good so I apologize in advance.
What I did was take my bun’s cage and build a pen around it and I made it so the top of her cage is kind of like a second story for her to lay on and have a place to jump up to. The condo has a door in the front and she has access to the inside of her cage at all times (that’s where she does her ‘stinky business’ tho we are still in potty training 101). She seems to like her new pen the way it’s set up.
Please feel free to leave constructive criticism or any comments about my NIC condo or anything else. I’m always looking for advice since I’m a new bun mom. Oh and I’m still trying to think of a name for my bun and I’m open to all suggestions (right now I just call her my lil hun bun).
Thanks so much and I hope you all like the pictures!!!

NIce set up!
nice set up very cute bun – congrats ![]()
OO I liked the top of the cage as a second story idea. I might use it myself. My bunny is also white with black spots! As for names.. how about Ginger, Parsly, Sorrel, Nutmeg, Hazel. I like the names of herbs and plants. My bunny is called Fern.
That’s similar to my set up. I have the xpen around the cage. I would suggest putting a towel on the cage door that hangs down so little toes don’t get stuck in a mad dash. I actually have something under my door to prop it up and a towel on top so that it is flat and like a stoop.
that cage looks great! what a lucky bunny! she looks like a hybrid of my Meadow, ADEE’s Rain, and Pam’s Spockie. what a cutie! you could name her after a favorite tv or movie character, song, book character… 1st grade teacher… lol. anything really. what i’ve done before is check out list of pet names. you could pick a letter of what you want it to start with and pick something with that letter. or use a variation of your name…
Hi everyone! Thanks for all the nice comments ![]()
Knowltons4- I think I’m going to take your suggestion about the cage door. She is a clumsy bunny so she may end up just hurting herself is she gets her leg stuck. Plus, I’ve noticed her trying to lift up the door so I think she may like the idea of being able to hide under it… I’m sure I can figuire something out to make it work ![]()
Thanks everyone and I like all the name suggestions… I’m trying some out on her today (yes, I’m so crazy that I think of a few names and call her them to see if they suit her lol)
I actually have a plastic container underneath. Works great
Ohh well thats simple enough lol I’m gonna go do that right now! Thanks ![]()
You have a very nice setup for your bun. She’s so precious, I love the black stripe down her back.
I like the name Sundae for a black and white bun. Vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce!!!! Can you tell I’m on a no-junk diet!!!
Then just get a hand towel and fold in half and tuck the edges in at the top and voila!
I like the name Hazel, or Mia, I am just wierd like that though, I like your set-up
if the pen is a permanent set-up, you could also get a pair of pliers and just remove the door altogether…
Yeah I was thinking that Beka but then my mom made a good point. I like to put her in her cage with the door shut when I vacuum my room. So I’m gonna experiment with it and see how it works if I prop the cage door up. ![]()
if that doesn’t work out well tho, remember you can remove it and re-attach it with a pair of binder clips, top and bottom when necessary…
Your mom is a smart woman! It’s actually nice to have the door because when I do that major cage cleaning I can lock the little booger up while I clean otherwise he’s such a pain as he follows the vacuum with his nose and I’m afraid he’ll get sucked right up. It’s very funny. he just totally gets in my way.
LMAO Knowltons that gave me the best image of Edson locked up while you’re vacuuming with a nose stuck out of the cage bars and big sad eyes that say “puuhleaaase let me out I wana play with the big sucky machine tooooo” thank you that definately brightened up my day. Whenever I have to close Smudge’s door to her new attached pen I get a nose through the bars and if being cute doesn’t work I get the bunny butt.
Ohh Beka that’s a good point too! Knowltons- that’s funny about ur bun. That’s why I like to put her in the cage b/c whenever I clean her pen out she’s all up in my face like “umm excuse me, that’s my stuff go away” lol
*chuckles* I can soo see Edson with that look on his face!!
Great Setup Minieservis!!
hehe aww edson sounds like such a character, my two hate the vac ![]()
Nora got stuck on the vac hose ahahaa. She got loose tho I wondered what that weight was on the bottom of the vac hose. Yeah I like your set up cool.
Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! I’m glad you all enjoyed the pics ![]()
What a great set-up. If you do end up getting clearer pictures (maybe from a friend’s camera) I would love to put this in the gallery. I also would like to see a wider view. Looks like you are covering part of the pen with something ??
Does the cube pen feel stable or is it wobbly at all? IF you find it is a bit wobbly, you can use a couple of dowels vertically to add structure.
You have received great advice about covering the door used for ramp or removing it all together.
If she is prone to urinate outside of her cage you would definitely want to put something underneath that rug so protect your carpeting underneath. You can use tarp, sheet vinyl etc. Just be sure she can’t get to the edges to chew on. Usually then I would have two soft floorings, one that could be down while the other is in the wash.
Also, some bunnies like to chew on the edges of flooring. I can’t tell, but it looks like one corner is flipped up inside of the pen. You may have to watch that. If it’s on the other side but it’s still bunny teeth accessible, just try to get it away from the side the best you can. Not all bunnies are obsessed with flooring edges and stuff poking through or near near their pen, but just watch how she reacts to those anyway.
Again, great job!
I’ve actually got the spare screen for the back door on top of the cage. My bun is quite a jumper. But she’s very good about not chewing on things. So far the rug hasn’t been a problem and she does all the pottying inside her actual cage. i’m surprised how sturdy the pen is. I used cable ties to keep them together and they’re working great. My boyfriend is an electrician and he had some heavy duty ties from work he gave me. I’m gonna try to get some better pictures that way you could add them to the gallery if you want
Thanks
It sounds great. What a great idea with the screen. I look forward to getting clearer pictures to put in the gallery. A good way to show off all your great work.
