Hey guys, sorry I’ve been out for awhile—super busy and just not time for anything! But I have a question…

I was gone all weekend and came home to my boyfriend showing me something he pulled out of Boston’s mouth. It was HUGE groups of bunny fur! I’m talking the size of a baseball (with the hair spread out), more like a golf ball if the hair were compressed. I guess my BF saw this hair sticking out of Boston’s mouth and started pulling, and just kept pulling and pulling and pulling.

Ok, so now I’m freaking out! They can’t hack this up the way a cat can, can they? Will she choke on it? What should I do besides brush her out daily?

        Thank you!

Sounds like she was grooming herself and got a whole lot of fur in her mouth. Thye can’t vomit up the hairballs like cats so I think the only way she could have gotten that much fur in her mouth is by grooming. When my bunny is losing fur, I have to brush him more than once a day, othersie he starts to groom himself and has fur in his mouth and in his poo so my solution was to groom him in the morning and at night.

Sorry that I couldn’t be more helpful – but if your worried I think papaya tablets and fresh pineapple juice haev an enzyme in it that helps to break down funballs. Can someone else add something? I don’t know anything about that.

How on earth did Boston manage to gather up all that wool? 0_0 No, they can’t hurl, so soemthing like that would’ve been awful to go down in her stomach.
I take it she’s fully recovered from her head tilt? And yes, I would definitely recommend daily brushing with at least one of those love gloves. Gentle but effective. Are there any other buns in the house she would’ve pulled all that fur off of?
What a little chipmunk! ^_^ Saving it for a rainy day, yes?

yikes. If she is shedding could be from that. Otherwise when Cotton fought with a male bun they pulled fur and Cotton went around eating the fur he pulled out that was lying about on the floor b4 I could get to it. Crazy I know scared me that he would eat all that hair like that.

Could also be hormonal, like a false pregnancy. Pulling out fur to make a nest.

I think she’s just shedding cuz there’s no other buns in the house.

Yep, she is mostly recovered, just a slight tilt.

Hormonal,…..could be possible. My boyfriend said he had to hold her down forcefully to pull all the hair outta her mouth.

Pineapple juice? Like from a can? Add it to her water?

We will start brushing her more, we do have a furminator….

No, pineapple juice from a can does not have the enzymes necessary to break up hair in the stomach. You need to use fresh pineapple-if you go to your grocery and see in the produce section they usually have those little tubs of fresh cut pineapple. That would work just fine. It’s what I use.

Should pineapple juice be limited b/c of its sugar content?

Yes, don’t give too much. I’m not sure if BB has a guide to the amount, but I think it’s supposed to be no more than a tablespoon (?) in their water per day?
Don’t quote me, I’m not positive on this. Sorry. I honestly can only get one of my buns to take it. The other will turn his nose up at any sweet other than blueberries and he HATES laxatone!

Would another Binky member who is more knowledgeable please chime in here? I don’t want to lead allenj astray!

EDIT: ALLENJ-BB just replied to another member that pineapple is not to be used daily because it is too sweet. So please disregard my advice. Fresh hay and vegetables are to be the staple of a healthy bunnies’ diet, not fruit or fruit juices!

Sorry to confuse, but I defer to BB, she knows better what she is talking about than I.

Glad he pulled it out!!! My irresponsible bf would probably have giggled and not realizing the seriousness-pats on the back for your bf!!
