What is the best way to store unused Critical care? The package has been opened. I have read a couple of different things–freeze or refrigerate it. And how long does it last? Again I have heard one year and 6 months!

        Help!

I would recommend freezing it – I would think that would be the best way to keep it lasting the longest. I have heard 1 year as well. If you need to get it out to re-use it, just smell and look at it to make sure it didn’t go bad. In a pinch, you can also soak pellets in water until it makes a mush in order to create something that can be used for force-feeding.

Yes, freezing is the ticket.  Pack it in something that is airtight like a plastic container or a ziploc bag, and it should last about a year.

                  http://www.oxbowhay.com/link.sp

this is the page link on Oxbow.  it’s used for bunnies that are not eating.

that page says unopened bags have a shelf life of two years, opened and froze are good for 6 months…
