I normally go away for the weekend, and of course knew this would change when I got a pet.  But!  Evie’s cage is definitely transportable, and I give her freetime in a bathroom, and any bathroom works.  Any reason it’s not a good idea to take her on a little weekend away from the busssy apartment to a quieter house?

Go for it.  I’ve taken our 3 on a few weekends and overnights and they did fine.  You do have to lug a whole pile of stuff with you though, it’s like having babies (human that is) on a trip.  I always take a few things that smell like home (one of their rugs, one of their litterboxes not freshly cleaned, a few toys) to make them a little more comfortable.  Honestly, the car rides are much harder on them than the overnights are.  Rabbits travel well for the most part.

No reason-especially if she doesn’t find travelling too stressful! I took mine to Vancouver and back LOL

It’s nice, like Osprey said, to bring some of their stuff to make them feel more at home.

I have a couple bunnies that get incredibly stressed in the car (well, one is blind, and the other is a bit of a hermit!) so I minimize the time I take them in the car. Have your bunnies traveled in the car before? If you take them somewhere, don’t forget that you cannot leave them sitting in a hot car if you stop anywhere. Also, when driving, make sure to cover their carrier with a sheet so that the sun doesn’t heat up the carrier too much, that can make them very hot.

Also, don’t forget to bring plenty of hay and treats!

I think that you should definitely go for it, but like others have said, it really just depends on your bunny. My one bunny doesn’t mind being in the car at all (I have yet to take the other anywhere). As long as he has hay and a treat or two…he’s set. I’m actually going to be heading back to college in two weeks, so both of my bunnies will be staying with my family while I’m gone during the week. However, when I come home on weekends (I only live 30 minutes from my college), they will come and stay with me. I know that it is dragging them around a lot, but I don’t see them getting stressed about it. I feel that it’s my duty to care for them, and they do need time with their mom.

I’m sure that your bun would love a little bit of something new even if at first it is a bit stressful. Mine are always very curious about new things, so yours may enjoy it as well.

How long is the drive?  I know many people who take their bunnies with them on weekend trips.  But again, it really depends on your bunny.   You can take him for a short drive to see how he acts. I mean most bunnies are going to find it stressful, quicker breathing and a bit freaked, but there are some that just totally freak out.   Here  are some great tips regarding car rides from the House Rabbit Society.http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/travel.html#THINGS%20TO%20KNOW%20ABOUT%20CAR%20TRAVEL

I also suggest that if your destination is over an hour or more a way, to make sure to have the number of a rabbit savvy emergency vet that is near your weekend location.
