…all roads lead to bunnies.
A bit off topic (that’s why I’m in the Lounge) but I finally got to move into an office at work today. I work P/T at a small museum, and after some really tough job situations I am working at a place I really like, with a tiny staff, and lots of different responsibilities calling for some creativity. Like today, I taught little kids at their art camp how to learn to draw portraits. One more lesson on that tomorrow. Then I oversee the volunteers in dealing with the public, I have made 3 bio brochures on artists in the last 5 months along with a PR postcard (Upping my graphic design skills) but best of all, I have been curating the art exhibits with my boss, the Museum Director. We’re the only two paid staff with lots of volunteers, and the rest of the dozen or so staff run this amazing theater, outdoor stage pavilion, jazz series, function rentals and lecture series. I think I’m forgetting something but you get the idea.
So I work 4 days/week and everyone wants me to start full time, but it’s a budget thing. Grants and funding is getting slashed all over. I NEED a full time job with benefits so I can move out from my folks’ home and get my own place – with a bunny. You’ve heard this before, but it’s getting closer to the board meetings which will decide if I have a job there full time starting in October.
But meanwhile, they cleaned out a room next to my boss’ office that used to be an office, then a gift shop, then a junk closet. They got a set of furniture donated by Office Depot a couple of months ago, and let me have a very attractive wood desk with matching bookcase. My grandmother’s antique red velvet loveseat is in there because I was storing it there after I moved in with my parents. Instead of putting it with my stored stuff, I am lending it to them for a show that opens in October. I knew they were serious when they moved my computer in the office. So I am in it tomorrow!!!
Best part: one wall has two large windows.
I need daylight like fish need water, and my last two jobs were in windowless cubicles. ARGH! So this is sunny with an antique look to it and original paintings for decoration. I will putter tomorrow. Like I said, it’s a step. In this awful economy it’s been a real struggle for over a year, so thank God for my parents. We get along really well.
Do you think they’d notice if a bunny just showed up under my desk? Just a little one, no noise, maybe one that can type…
