Great video to post!  This is so true.  There are so many bunnies that are supposedly vicious and they turn out to be the sweetest bunnies in the world.  I’d be vicious too if I was dumped and thrown in a small cage in a strange place!

I actually have a rabbit like this – I have him in a Leith condo but I think he would be better in an x-pen or free roaming. He has always been very aggressive though – even with the family that had him before and they had him in a room alone. I am a bit afraid of him because he just naturally lunges at me.

I do think quite a bit of the behavior is a result of the environment.

I ALWAYS go to the ‘vicious’ bunny section when I go to a shelter. Most of them just are looking for someone who knows how to handle buns and aren’t afraid of them. When they see your hesitation, they get scared too.

Of course, this has also bit me a few times too (literally) when the rare bun I pick up REALLY is vicious and I leave with a couple of really good bite welts on me.

Ugh I really shouldn’t watch videos like this… it always gets me all teary eyed and thinking I could save another one. Poor thing, all she really needs is someone to spend time with her and let her real personality show through.

Excellent video! I’ve never seen a ‘viscious’ sign on a rabbit cage! I know once I overheard a staff member asking someone else to help her clean a cage because the rabbit was attacking her….I find if they try to box or growl when I put my hand in, I just move slow and they relax .

oh man – that songs really gets to me! that video made me completely cry (hmm, perhaps I shouldn’t have admitted that). I think its so funny how bunnies can get labeled vicious. My husband is great at working those kinds of buns. Grace used to lunge any time we touched her, and now my husband gives her kisses right on the head and she melts into a little bunny puddle.

I’ll have to watch the vid when I get home … however, I personally feel some bunnies are naturally aggressive … regardless of how much time you can spend with them and provide them with a lovely environment, it can generally be in their nature and personality.

My bun is a temperamental fellow .. any opportunity he has he will lunge and bite … and I am very careful where I place my hands.  He has recently taken to biting my ankles.  He definitely has terrible house manners

that made me cry

It just kills me how some people treat animals! So many unwanted rabbits. So few people who truly understand their nature. There was a saying, I think from the house rabbit society that said there is no such thing as finding the right rabbit, but finding the right person to take the rabbit.
Just think of things from a rabbits perspective. Family gets rabbit, rabbit gets put in a cage too small for it, in a room that never gets opened. No visits accept for food or water and the occasional cleaning. Giant hands come to lift the scared bunny from the cage. The rabbit is naturally going to feel afraid and will defend itself when this happens.
Thank goodness for the patient people, like the people on here that strive to build trust and friendship to their rabbits.

We find that it is more of the rabbit choosing the person. We had an individual come by recently to Save A Bunny looking for a rabbit. Marcy sized him up (she’s good at that) and introduced him to Ned. Ned was good bun and did typical bun things around him while they both sat in an X-pen. Then Marcy looked over at Mario, who was currently ‘standing’ in his cage with his paws against the door. She swapped him out for Ned and Mario more or less hopped up into the guy’s lap, put both of his front paws on his chest and turned his head towards Marcy as if to say, “I’ll take this one,” we all were blown away as Mario had all but given up hope and would often just sit sedately in the back corner of his cage.

Of course the guy was just as blown away as we were and decided on the spot that Mario was coming home with him.

Oh, and as for Lavendar, she is a sweetie. She grunts at you as you try to get her from her cage but the moment she’s in your arms, she puddles at the petting.

That was a beautiful story, Markus. I can just picture it in my mind, good grief I don’t suppose anyone got video of that momentous meeting? How cool would that be?

lolz…Vicious buns, eh? Just come ’round my place as I don my apron and knock on cage doors for ‘housekeeping’. I get more grunts than a fresh platoon of Marines. xD
