  So Tonks has gotten quite fat over the past few months so I have cut her pellets back to under 1/2 cup a day. (before I was giving her a little over 1/2 cup She’s a mini rex so she should not be as fat as she has gotten. How long does it usually take for them to start losing? Is there anything else I can do? She gets tons of roaming time so she’s pretty active. I have noticed her laying around a little more this week then usual but nothing drastic. She loves to eat. She munches on hay all day long and gets 3 kinds of veggied twice a day.
  
  I have been feeding her small strawberry tops for treats. And maybe a couple times a week a baby carrot or 2 rasins. I hate to not give her treats though. But should I cut back?

  she looks pretty big in your signature, bigger than my mini rex. i am also curious to know how much she weighs now. i’m wondering if she might be part (or all!) regular rex… rabbitpam said in another thread somewhere that her “mini rex” Spockie got to be about 6 pounds, and he was 8 pounds at his very largest… i’m also thinking he might have been either a mix, or a regular rex.

  My rex is a standard rex – I’m not sure how much she weighs but she’s a little overweight too. I think I would encourage her to exercise more rather than cut back on her treats.
  
  I would also cut back a little more on her pellets.
  
  These poor rexes just have a tendency to get overweight.

  Tonks is beautiful! My white rex, Lola, is definitely overweight, but we’ve been working on it.
  
  She gets out as soon as I get home and she’s all over the house, she loves to follow people around, poking her nose into everything. She’s gone from being quite square shaped to rounded and has lost a couple of big bulges so far, but we (me included) still have a way to go.
  
  I took the suggestions here and began scattering her food all over the house for her to find and made some pillow ramps so she’s constantly working to get up and down from the couch, chairs, etc. She’s not supposed to have pellets, but I will take a dozen or so and scatter them everywhere so she’ll spend hours making sure she has them all. (I feed her husbun Daisy his pellets while she’s out and about and he always finishes them in a hurry incase she pops back in…lol)
  
  I’ve looked in the stores and realized they just don’t sale baby scales anymore, do a lot of you guys have home scales?

  I have a baby scale that a friend of mine gave me – it’s an old fashioned one (not digital). I wonder if they would have them in Baby R Us or something…

  i just happen to work at Babies R Us and they do have digital scales. they are about 70 bucks, which is not cheap, but i think if you have bunnies it’s a pretty good investment to make, esp. as they get older.

  It can take at the very least a few weeks and it really is hard to say if your rabbit is overweight without knowing how much she weighs. As for losing weight/maintaining, encourage exercise and I have to say that my two only get 1 tablespoon of pellets every morning, unlimited hay and 1 cup of veggies each for dinner.
