we had a great day with shadow in our house today.  SHe was all sweet and behaved herself.  Later on she went into her cage and was fine .  Then Hubby noticed during our dinner that she kept moving alot in a weird way.  We let her out she isn’t herself  she is barely hopping.  kind of doing the commando crawl.  Hubby is really worried and the more worried he gets tehe more worried I get.  she ate dinner but I tried to give her a treat ( a carrot ) adn she wants know part of it    :o(   We have a call into the vet but there are no 24 hour vet places

Look in your yellow pages for animal hospitals. Call any one listed until you get an answer and ask where your nearest 24 hour animal hospital is. Call them and ask who to take her to for immediate care. Even if you find a listing for dogs and cats, they will probably be able to help in an emergency-or be able to determine if it is an emergency yet from her symptoms.

oh no! Were you able to find anywhere else to take your bunny? That doesn’t sound good at all that she is crawling, she must be in some kind of pain. Is there anywhere else that you can take her?

Oh, no I would be furious! This definitely sounds like an emergency. I don’t know where you live but maybe there is a rabbit savvy vet near you.

Here is a link to vet listiings. Now I know these may not be emergency vets, but many times on the after-hours regarding the vet’s office provides their recommendation for emergency care. So it might be worth a try.

well she made it through the night. She didn’t move from her spot she was in last, she looks up and then lays right back down. won’t eat. I have a call into our vet (right down the road) but I go into work @ 8 and that is when they open. I’m planning to take a half day.

her ears are cool/cold, is this a sighn of an ear infection, are there anything else that would make her just plop down? She now won’t eat.

I am fairly sure that cold ears are not good sign, but I do not think it is a sign of ear infection. I think it is more likely a sign that she perhaps is having stasis, or something else is causing her to feel sick that is now causing her to not eat. You are doing a good job taking care of her though, and a good job monitoring her symptoms. I think it is definitely a good idea to get her to your vet ASAP – explain that it is an emergency and the emergency vet wouldn’t help you and I hope they can get you in right away. I hope she is feeling better very soon!

                        Hi,
I don’t know where you live so I’m not sure which time zone you’re in. When I read that she was hanging in there this morning it was almost 8AM EST, so I’m hoping that you were already at the vet. Let’s hope she is being seen as I write this. Hang in there – your vet will understand the emergency nature of her health and hopefully she’ll be diagnosed and treated before I even hit reply. Let us know what the vet said when you get a minute.

this is mrs.jpgood  as mrjpgood did most of the posting.  Today  I had to leave for work extra early as I work in a child care center and I had new students arriving.  I have talked to mr jpgood and he is bringing shadow in later on today. I hate waiting.  However I feel if they didn’t say get her in right away it may be a good sign.  I want to go home but we have a field trip today so I wont be able to .

I bet you are sooo worried too. Gosh what a long day this will be for you both. All 3 of you. Gosh best vibes coming your way

Thanks for all the good vibes.  I only hope that the field trip which is bowling will take my mind off things Its cute to watch little ones bowl although it taks a really long time.and I hope hubby goes home to check on her at lunch.  Although I am afraid for him this is his first pet.  I am running through a schedule in my head.  I could leave early but the boss is away and I don’t want it to look like I am taking advantage and I am sure DH has it under control but I don’t know if he needs me.

well doc says she is fine. looked at her ears, weighed her, checked her temp felt her sides/legs and clipped her nails. clean bill of health, he said that she may have a “fur ball” keep an eye on her and B.M’s. She has pee’d and pooped, So mrs jpgood and I will order or go and search for Papaya tablets and see if she will take them.

I’m glad to hear your rabbit is O.K. sometimes this is a sign of a stroke – more specifically when the left rear leg is dragging. Other things I thought of were spinal cord damage or some type of infection interfereing with signals from the brain. Did the vet give you anything? Fiber is really important and papaya is usually just really a preventative that sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. How is the appetite?

She  is feeling better thanks for asking.  She has eaten and now she is acting almost “  norma”  she took some food from my hand and a carrot and she is back to licking  hubby.  I don’t feel out of the woods yet but  hopefully  i am just being a worry wart.

I’m very glad to hear Shadow is doing better! It may have been gas or some other kind of tummy trouble that passed. Has she been doing well with eating her hay and her healthy veggies? (I don’t have to ask about treats because I know all bunnies gobble those right up!)

she didn’t eat this morning, but when I stopped in @ lunch it was all gone. yes she is eating veggies and drinking, I’v noticed her poo is small and a “darker black”she is black (hence the name shadow). Like sccarletrose bun (exactly) Is this a good sign?

This is a good sign that things are passing through, but keep a close eye on her. Usually stasis isn’t caused by a “fur ball”, but the fur ball is caused by the slowing of the tract, and the slowing of the gi tract is usually caused by something else, some other underlying problem. So when vets say “fur ball”, that worries me a bit because “fur balls” are not the cause, but the result of something else. So hopefully it was just a bout of gi stasis that is getting better (sometimes there is a reason like diet, environment – like too hot, illness, stress, and sometimes there just doesn’t seem to be a reason and it clears up with care)

Sending out continued healing vibes! Keep us updated

Is Shadow shedding at all, when was the last time you gave a good grooming to get out all the excess fur? This may help some with the being over-heated issue.
