I think I have pretty much made up my mind about what I am going to do, but I thought that I’d throw this out to the group to see what others think.

In a couple of weeks, we’ll be visiting some friends in the Lake Tahoe area.  This is a house, not a hotel situation.  The owners of the house have no problem with us bringing our bunnies along.  The ride up there is about 4 hours in the car.

So here is the question: given a 4 hours each way car ride for a long weekend, would you take your bun or buns with you, or use a sitter?  i am leaning towards bringing ours along, as they have been on long car rides before and did fine, and I think they would feel better around us than with a sitter.

I would take them with me. I can’t stand being away from them for that long and I would worry about them and wish I had brought them along if I didn’t especially with it being so hot outside.

i think you could bring them… like you said, they’ve been on long trips before and if your hosts don’t mind…

the buns are “comfortable” riding in a car?  4 hours is not that bad. I would definitely bring them along. I would also be worrying too much if they weren’t with me. and if your hosts don’t mind you bringing them, that’s pretty cool. A good thing, its not a hotel situation.

I would think as long as the car ride itself is nice and cool, then that would be neat! I wish Mim & Pip felt better about car rides, (or even plane rides), not to mention our cats, I’d take them lots of places.
My hubby is starting to push for a trip Stateside to visit his more elderly relatives and he wants us all to go, but I just can’t think of leaving the furbabies with a neighbor, or even worse as he suggests, putting them in a kennel. >.< So he'll likely take the kids and I'll stay home with the four-footed, red-headed stepchildren. ^_^ lolz…

There’s no problem with the car ride, and you know that your friends don’t have any pets, right? The only problem I see is whether their home is bunny proofed. I;m sure the buns’ll stay pretty confined, but if they don’t have a good space, you might throw a collapsed x-pen in the trunk to take with you, and something to protect your friends’ rugs. It’s the easy guests that are invited back.

Rabbitpam – I fully intend to bring a tarp, dropcloth and an XPen for run around time.  My guys are terrible for peeing in unknown territory, no way I’d risk it, and Curly Sue is really bad about chewing, so they will get limited space.

my bf and I took Lola along with us to Tahoe when she was young. She seemed perfectly fine. We let her hop around the hotel room…but yeah the x-pen idea is great!

Osprey-I just did two twelve hour rides with two bunnies there and three back. It was sooo easy, I’d totally say go for it!! Especially you, you’re very rabbit savvy!!!

…sounds good. You might end up with new future bunny parent converts…Just do a head count on the ride back in case they steal one of your buns.

Have fun on your trip and let us know how the bunnies do! I bet your friends will enjoy having them for the weekend too.

We got back from the Tahoe trip yesterday.  The buns did fine.  They basically refused food and water during the trip up there and back, but once we got to our destination they were quite thirsty and hungry.  The buns were a big hit with our hosts’ kids too.  The biggest problem was vacuuming up all of the hay on Sunday after I had taken down their pen and before we left.
