We made it to Vancouver and back without a hitch and Chuck is home with us now!! Pictures to come soon, Dave has to unload the camera for me ![]()
Travelling with them was not as difficult as I thought at all! We did do force feedings of baby carrot food and apple juice flavoured water at three hour intervals to ensure they were all hydrated and their stomachs kept moving, but they were eating along the way as well (I brought lots of nice greens). We also picked some clover and dandelions in the forest when we stopped for impromtu pee breaks and they mowed those down!
Chuck is sooo SWEET! He loves to cuddle-and eat-that boy is a little piggie!! We are pretty sure he is deaf as well, as Dave was vaccuming and noticed Chuck didn’t move or anything, so he went up to chuck and clapped his hands and yelled and Chuck didn’t move…Either really laid back or deaf. He gets around really quite well. Right now he’s chilling beside a frozen water bottle.
When Kahlua first met Chuck she actually jumped, I think his eye scared her. There was a little humping from everyone but they got along great, plus 12 hours of ‘car ride’ bonding. They aren’t hanging out together at this minute but no one is fighting either. I really love him, he’s super sweet;
Awe that’s so great! I’m dying to see pictures! Glad your trip went so well! What a brave sole you are!
Congratulations!
He sounds adorable. Pix soon, please.
awe… chuck sounds amazing! i’m glad the trip went so well for all of you. can’t wait to see your pics ![]()
Congratulations and cannot wait to see pictures.

awesome pics! which one are you, the blond or brunette? in the pic of the front seat, i was thinking, “who’s taking the photo? Kahlua?!!!” it looks like the weather held out for you!
Chuck is such a gorgeous boy. did you see the other buns or no?
i wonder if buns know if somebun is hurt or disabled and they are kinder to them…? i’m going to be curious to see how they continue to get along. wouldn’t it be aweosme if it was just an effortless bonding?
(Kokanee is looking down and binkying in joy right now… you done good.)
Thanks Beka! I’m the brunette-Kahlua isn’t that good with the camera, she usually takes upside down pictures, so my friend Lisa snapped that pic (the blonde) LOL
It seems that they know something is different with Chuck, Kahlua definitely noticed his eye right away.
Lisa looks like she’s a lot of fun to hang out with! and that’s a precious pic of you and Dave!
LOL… Kahlua takes upside down pics!!!
i wonder if anyone else has had experience bonding a disabled rabbit into a pair… now i’m curious if it tends to go better…
Well, Chucks personality is just about perfect for bonding (plus we got a head start with a day in a hotel-neutral territory, and 12 hours in a car…)
Chuck is a cuddler and leans into any contact, he doesn’t fight, will just sit there when he gets humped, and loves grooming/being groomed. He apparently has gotten along with any rabbit he’s been housed with …so I’m gonna go ahead and say I ‘have it in the bag’ here
Hey, Welcome back! Vancouver seems like a really beautiful place! Pretty water!
I’m so jealous! Your buns liked Chuck right away? Not fair.
What’s the story about Chuck, I must have missed it. Did you get him from a rescue (feel free to refer to another post). He is very cute!
Cute, cute, cute – love the photos.
oh he’s so cute & squishy!!! he reminds me of my beautiful departed brownie bun… they have the same coloring. i must have missed your posts about getting chuck too. i shall go & try to find the thread…
oh and the pics were all great!!! you’re a cutie too
sure do want to visit out west some day.
For those who need to catch up…Long story short, I decided I wanted another special needs bunny; There aren’t any close so I figured a road trip was in order and searched everywhere within 15H driving. I found Chuck, he’s blind but also deaf (as we soon discovered) Here’s his story
Chuck is a handsome, Lop rabbit who has a sad past. He was taken from the porch of a crack house by a little girl who could not bear his suffering. He was stuffed in a hamster cage and left outside in the freezing weather. The kind man who took him in at the girl’s request took him to the veterinarian. At first they thought he would die. He had been eating the cedar chips in the cage and had terrible eye infections. But Chuck is a survivor and he now has a lovely, shiny coat and plump figure. The eye infections were severe and Chuck has lost his right eye and is blind in the left. He does very well and will move around feeling out his area. He needs a safe place where he cannot fall down stairs or similar drops. Chuck is affectionate, loves to be petted and talked to and knows his name. He is a very clean bunny and always uses his litter box faithfully going back to it to relieve himself. He loves other bunnies and would be a good mate for a kind, lonely rabbit.
how can he be deaf if he knows his name? maybe he’s just playing hard to get… ;o)
LOL They told me he knows his name, but clapping while he was sleeping failed to wake him up; Also, he didn’t notice the vaccum….
(((((((((chuck))))))))) i’m so glad he found his way to your family k&k… he’ll get all the love he deserves now!
sometimes i think baby bun is deaf. she never startles when the dog barks or when he suddenly gets up and runs away from his own toots (i swear… he does this… its ridiculous). when she’s fast asleep she doesn’t hear me come into her room or whistle…. i have to blow on her gently to get her attention. yet i can say ‘baby NO’ when she’s nibbling on my pine tv stand and she’ll turn & look at me before she continues to nibble. lol. i have decided that she’s verrrry mellow & that her lop ears muffle some sounds too.
I had forgotten his story. It just makes me cry. How can people be so cruel is beyond me. How can he have such an incredible personality with his tortured past is also beyond me. What a very very lucky boy he is. I am so sure the other two sense that he is not 100%. What an incredible person you are for having gone so far to get him. I hope he has a very long and happy life. He certainly deserves it.
what a cute bun, but such a sad past…
at least now he has much better life! ![]()
Well it looks like Kaluah took right to him. Yeah, buns can sense when one another aren’t well. The ONLY bun Maryann didn’t attack at the HRS was one that had a tear duct issue. That one, she hopped on over to and groomed his eye for him.
I am amazed that he’s so calm. You’d think a blind bun that couldn’t hear would jump straight into the air when something touched him!
AWW!! welcome back!! I’m glad your trip went well!! and thank you so much for getting Chuck, even if he’s “special needs”…he looks very mellow and laid back
and SUPER CUTE!! I just LOVE his color and markings, and his floppy ears. and what a cute picture of all three of them!!
They seem to get along with each other quite well.
Chuck DESERVES a good loving special forever home!! and he has found it with YOU!! YAY!!
I know, its a happy tail, but this story -for some reason- got me quite emotional…and…crying…![]()
Chuck looks so much like a cuddle bunny!! I just wanna HUGG him…![]()
Give him, Rupert and Kahlua BIGGY HUGGZ from me!!
And *HUGGZ* to YOU too!!
Vancouver looks really nice too…BTW…
***TAKE CARE***
I love your pictures, and the ones of Chuck with Kahlua and Rupert are really special. I bet they like having a third bunny back, and I would also bet that Kokanee had a hand in arranging your rescue of him.
I would work on calling him by name. He may have partial hearing, and knows his name. Perhaps his response to loud noises is to be very still as a self preservation reaction, since he’s blind and couldn’t see where to run. He knows he’s vulnerable, so maybe he just freezes.
that’s a good point Pam… that might be what’s going on…
Oh he’s beautiful! *melts* And it’s so cute to see him and Kahlua so cuddly already! Even Rupert looks to be on his best behavior.
Ah, I’d forgotten how lovely Vancouver is. *sigh* Of course I think the last time I was there I was just a wee grasshopper. ^_^
So Chuck cannot see or hear? Wow, that’s got to be hard for a bun. But you wouldn’t be able to tell, he looks like he’s fitting right in!
How wonderful that the trip went so well for all of you, I couldn’t imagine doing such a thing with Mim & Pip! 0.o;
THOSE PICS ARE SO FUN!!! WOW VANCOUVER LOOKS PRETTY!!! Chuck looks like Floppy!
Oh yes Chuck looks alot like floppy!
Well in a few more weeks when we’re all settled in I’m going to take Chuck in for a vet exam and I’m sure she’ll be able to tell me if he has any hearing..I do think he may see a little with his eye, it does respond (the lids at least) to light so maybe he has some vision. He sure does well!! We had a nice cuddle tonight-I cannot believe how soft he is!!
I’m sooo glad you got him! He’s gonna have such a happy life with you and your buns~
You all are such a cute happy-looking bunch! How great of you to take on such a challenge (although he sounds awfully easy for being so difficult-in-theory!)!
Vancouver looks beautiful! I’ve never been to Canada…
Congrats on your new bun! (From your other post–sorry he tried to give you heart failure with the disappearing act!)
What great pictures! Love ’em. And I am so happy that the bonding has worked out so well! WHEW!
Aww thats so adorable! I’m glad he made the trip ok! And I’m so jealous that he bonded so fast
I still can’t seem to bond Grace because her blindness leads her to attack anything that surprises her…so Raymond stopped trying after enough whacks on the head.
He looks sooooo cute – and what a beautiful story to go with such a beautiful trip!
I’ve been everywhere in Canada and alot of the US, Mexico and Cuba, and Europe. Vancouver (and BC) is the absolute most beautiful place in the whole world!! I hope to live there someday
My dad phoned this week to tell me he’d made a rabbit run in their yard for my bunnies to come over and play in, so we brought them over last night…They liked it but were a tad nervous…mostly we brought them over to ‘surprise there is three-meet Chuck” LOL I did not tell them about him ahead of time, because they lecture forever!! Once they saw him of course they fell in love
So it went well!
Any Dad that makes a run in his yard for his grandbunnies to play in is a pushover. ![]()
That is tooooo cute
His little grandbunnies! My grandma totally fell in love with Kramer and sent him a box of toys and treats about 100x the size of Kramer for Christmas! I love helping other people fall in love with bunnies.
Awwww….. pics are so cute. The story made me tear up too!!! A hamster cage!!??? Geez! Anyways I’m glad he found you! Hey and to add something off topic I’ll be in Edmonton this August!!
Neat!! You should come meet them! LOL ![]()
awesome pictures! so glad to hear you finally got your new addition – congrats!
I should!!! Hehe!!
make sure Bigsis empties her pockets before she leaves tho… and do an ear count!
(j/k… lol!)
Hehehahahha too funny!!! ![]()
hows the bonding K&K? (sorry missed everything being away eekk >.<)
Actually really well thanks!!
They had a ‘sleepover’ in ‘neutral territory’ at the hotel and then 12H in a car, so they haven’t done ANY fighting. Rupert actually took right to him, which is surprising because he was so mean to Kokanee and Kahlua.
I would’t say they are totally bonded, since often Kahlua and Rupert will be off somewhere playing and Chuck will be elsewhere, but they all eat together and Rupert and Kahlua have groomed him. Everybody’s free range and been getting along spiffy!! ![]()
awesome! its great when it goes so well, i couldnt believe hopscotch and daxter got on instantly and i was really pleased, glad its going so well!
…gee I wish I could watch a cute movie of 3 little bunny friends…
…or maybe just see pictures of 3 cute little bunny friends…
sigh
LOL OooooKaaayyy
I’ve taken lots just have to get the boyfriend to load them up!!

Ok and this one, Rupert jumped over Kahlua and his leg didn’t quite make it, and instead of adjusting, he just laid down! ![]()
[script removed]![]() |
Ah ha ha! In that last one has Rupert actually put his hind leg over kahlua?? he he he!
I love the 2nd one too……..a tummy sleeper. They all look pretty chummy – Congrats!
questions:
has Kahlua always been so dark, i remember pics of her where she was more brown…
what is that gray litterbox made out of?
where did you get that gigantic willow ball? i have the large one from on here and it’s not THAT big!
did you save the cardboard Maze circles as chewing distraction discs? (i did… lol!)
Chuck is so relaxed. you have done a great job with him. he is so lucky you found him, and traveled to go get him, and then gave him an awesome brother and sister.
LOL
Kahlua was more fuzzy gray but shed out and changed a little. That litter box is actually some kind of tupperware type container, that we trimmed down to be high backed litter box. And the willow ball I actually found at a garden centre-it’s a lawn ornament!! LOL Rupert was terrified of it at first
It was also only ten bux! I saved the circles for chewing too!
And thanks!! ![]()
