i dont no were this topic  would go, so im gonna put it here. when i was gonan get my bun, i didnt think it was gonna be as hard to take care of as it is actualy, like they poop like a machine, and you have to make a big enough cage, pay vet bills, and devote alot of time to them. (in the end, i do not regret getting a bun at all <3  ) SO  i was looking into getting a ferret, and was wondering a few things about them:

do they poop just as much as rabbits, and does the pee smell reall bad?

are they the kind of animal u can lay down with and they wont run (like dogs)

        do they sometimes bite?

are they able to be potty trained like rabbits?

        can they be with rabbits?

do they hump if not nutured?

and anymore, i will ask later. <3

i do not know the answers to most of your questions. i know they do smell (they have a musky smell). they also must have very large cages and vet care. i believe they can be “descented” but i know nothing about the process or anything. they can bite. they are carnivorous, so you have to feed them meat. they absolutely cannot be with rabbits b/c they can kill them.

my suggestion would be to continue caring for your bunny and wait until your bun passes (or you are an adult) before considering another pet. you’ve had quite a few problems securing adequate care for your rabbit and i worry that it would be a repeat situation with a ferret. as far as i understand, ferrets are not any easier to care for or clean up after, they are just different.

bigsis has a ferret. she posted pics of hers in the forum. maybe if you emailed her directly, or she saw this thread, she could tell you more.

Ferrets are also known to kill rabbits.

Ferrets are literally the equivalent of having a small child. They demand so much attention, they require SO much vet care throughout their lives, they cannot be left alone for long periods, and they are very sneaky and can escape very easily.

Also wanted to say, they come neutered and spayed. Usually you end up with a Marshall Ferret.

Now, they do poop like crazy and their poop STINKS. they have a very short digestion tract which causes them to poop every 2 hours or so.

I would not recommend you get one.

they come neutered and spayed from a puppy mill type thing? i hate that they probably don’t have good conditions, but i guess that’s at least halfway responsible. that must be why they always sell for 100-200 dollars. are they descented also, or am i imagining that they can be descented?

IF you were to do this (which again, i do not recommend at the moment) there are many in shelters and rescues that need adopted. i would go that route before i would buy at a petstore, of course.

I’ve never owned a ferret, but know several people who keep them.

                        A) They smell-and can smell really bad. They eat meat and poop indoors

                        B) They usually cannot be with rabbits, because they EAT rabbits

                        C) They sleep alot

                        D) They are like other pets, it depends on the personality if you can cuddle them.

If you think having a rabbit is a big responsibility, which it is, I would not suggest taking on more animals…
