Guys I found a white spot on Zacks eye. I’m going to call the vet when I get to work. My phones been turned off and soon my computer. Does any on have any idea what this could be? He’s the one in at a pet store in the dark stockroom.

I think there are so many things it could be that it would be hard to speculate.

Let us know what the vet says.

Reno tends to get a kind of a white-ish gunk on her eye that ends up being kind of a spot – looks rather like she somehow got wet lint on there. At first we kind of freaked out about it, now we know she’ll either end up getting it off or one of the others will groom it off her. Could this be what Zack has?

That’s a good point Annette – that does happen with some of my rabbits on occasion as well.

He let me rub it and it did’nt move so I don’t think it’s fuzz or any thig like that. I’m going to see if my vet will take payments I did’nt call today I thought I would get some opinions first.

If the spot does not move around, it is probably something that needs to be seen by a vet. My bunnies do sometimes get junk in their eyes, it can be fur mixed up with eye gunk, and it can be removed gently with a qtip. One of my bunnies is blind in one eye, and also has a permanent white spot in her eye, the vet said it could have been caused by trauma to the eye.

Its very possible, buns have such big eyes that its not uncommon (for mine at least) to be getting things in their eyes. Try to keep the corners of their eyes clean (use your finger or Qtip to gently remove any eye junk that accumulates there), so that nothing slides back into their eyes.

Oops – forgot to add that occasionally I use regular saline eye drops on my bunny’s eyes if they’ve got clogged tear ducts, or other eye junk in their eye that I cannot get out. This idea was recommended to me by a fellow rabbit rescuer so I believe it to be safe – has anyone else done this before?

Deanna gets the white gloppy stuff in her one good eye quite often.  I was told I could flush the gunk out with preservative free saline solution, but I have never found such a thing in the drug store.  Bunnies also blink very infrequently compared to us, so I think that make more stuff accumulate in the eyes.

I once freaked out over the exact same thing and it was gunk.  I thought she had cataracts or scratched her cornea…the hubby thought it was sad that that was my first inclination.  My vet recommended saline as well.  There are some salines that are less bad than others, so definately look.  The sad thing is that the majority of eye products have been tested on rabbits at some point, so they might be good.  Sorry, I was thinking that’s obviously not what the bad rabbit testing companies had in mind, but if they needlessly hurt sweet rabbits, well I think you get it (No offense anyone).

I believe that whole paycheck AKA whole foods or wild oats (sorry can’t remember the other place) sells preservative free saline.  You might be able to find it through gaiam online (sorry can’t spell tonight…or think).
