I still can’t really decide…It’ll be good to bring them as I’ll be able to keep an eye and ensure they are cool; and even start bonding….But a car ride is stressful and staying in a hotel for two days…GOSH!! ![]()

K&K…that seems an awful lot of stress for all 3 of you for only 2 days. Too long a ride, for too short a period in a strange hotel room…IMHO, unless you have no reliable bunny care, I would let it go. I can’t blame you for wanting to take them but I would have no peace if I was leaving them unattended in a hotel room.
I agree with Bunzai. Is it 14 hours RT total, or actually 28 hours in a couple of days? Either way, it’s a long trip in a short time even for humans.
Do you have air conditioning at home, or does your bunny caretaker? With instructions to your caretaker on how to be sure they remain cool, they should be fine. If you have a friend with AC that would take them just for the weekend, that’s a much less stressful set up for them as well. And if not, you’re already set up to cool them right where they are, and know it works.
You’re going to Vancouver for a reason: you’ll want your undivided attention there. By all means call to check on them, and maybe alert your vet that you’ve given the caretaker the vet’s number in case of an emergency. My vet boards rabbits – is that an option?
The best reason to leave them: you’ll feel so much better in the future if you know you can safely leave your bunnies for a few days in good hands.
I would definitely leave them at home IF you have a good bunny sitter! Way too much driving and stress! I would even have a hard time sitting in the car that long!
I think you should find a pet sitter for a while. A car ride and that long being from anything they’re used to would be hard on them. Plus the ride is a bit long too. Although I know how hard it is to leave your pet behind for even 1 day, but I think it would be best for them. Find a rabbit knowledgeable pet sitter to come let them out (seprate if they’re not bonded yet) and feed them. Hope this helps!
we were having a hard time deciding when we went to get Max and that was only 3 hours round trip! it was the HOTTEST day we’ve had all year and even in the car with air conditioning it was SO HOT! i would leave them with someone reliable, or leave them home and have someone check in. i would confine them tho just so they can’t get into any trouble (i know you have them full-time free range now, right?) plus the caretaker won’t have to search for them. maybe start confining them at night again so they get reaquainted with it and it’s not a huge shock.
this way the new bun can have your undivided attention for a little bit… that’s my thought.
I’m going to be the dissenting voice and say take them. Mind you they may be a little grumpy when they meet the new ones. But it’s easy enough to keep them cool in the car – we typically bring along a cooler and some ice packs that we put out for them to cuddle against if they’re warm. Freeze some strawberries to give the as treats in the car, they’ll enjoy the fruit and it will help to keep them cool. Apple flavoured pedialyte works well to keep them hydrated. Given what the temperatures are supposed to be there this weekend personally I’d be more comfortable having them with me so that I could keep an eye on them – I know that in our house with no air conditioning on hot days we’d b pretty much constantly monitoring the bunnies to make sure they weren’t in distress. I can’t imagine trying to concentrate on adopting a new bunny, especially a special needs bunny, while worrying if my buns were overheating at home.
If we were still in the area I’d offer to have them over for the weekend, but Scooter makes the final drive here (with our bunnies) tomorrow.
Are you taking Monday and Tuesday as well and making it a long weekend? For those in the US Tuesday is a holiday here – it’s Canada Day. MANY people will be taking Monday off for an extended weekend – in fact Scooter and I have a wedding to go to on Monday.

‘Bits are resilient creatures and what’s the use of having and taking care of pets if you can’t enjoy them when you want to? It sounds like you would have a lot of fun having them as your furry travel buddies, so I say go for it.
Thanks everyone!!
Scooter and Annette-Yup, I automatically get Tuesday off, so I put in for Monday when I heard it was a normal work day. …kind of gave them no choice said I had plans to be out of town hinging on the fact that common sense guessed Monday off as well (I mean, when have we ever had a holiday Tuesday and worked on Monday? maybe lots I dunno LOL). Have a great trip out east and I hope the rest of your move goes really well!!!
Beka-yup they are free range now, but you wouldn’t know it. Stinkers prefer to hang out in their condo!! LOL I drag them out for cuddles/clicker training/playing in the evening LOL
I would bring them I can’t leave cotton he is the kind would get depressed and may not eat. and you never know they may enjoy it some buns do and they would be together. you just lost 1 bun and the remaining bun may be lonely without his family and will help to bond them I luv taking mine with me. when I go visit my mom I am taking all of them. I personally would worry about cotton he is sooo very attached to me. and you bun may need you right now. yes if you can’ tfind good sitter with a/c I would def take them. stopping to let them out here n there now n then you all could use the company
undecided… a year ago i’d of never thought to bring buns on a trip but since i’ve had so many vet visits and realize how my buns are in the car i just may do it some day. my decision would be based on: can i get a decent set-up for them at the destination… what’s the weather going to be like (don’t have a/c at home)… and how are the buns doing health-wise.
Well. Here’s details on the set up when we get there.
Nice air conditioned room
(we are only there for two nights, so I’m going to leave the ‘do not disturb sign on’ and just not worry about room service until we’re gone “Hay? What kind of party were they having in here?” LOL can’t remember who said that…)
Not alone unless we pop down to the pool (but again, do not disturb sign) as I’m going with a girlfriend and Dave.
Free range..Don’t see any use hauling a cage since they don’t live in one at home, I’ll just bring their food/water dishes, a litter box and some toys and a bed-and bunny proof the room quick (unplug everything-stayed there before, the bed bottom is solid so they can’t go under there) plus these two really aren’t chewers or trouble makers.
The other hotel guests will just hear a lot of thumping!!!! You are mighty brave!
The maids might wonder about all the strange little brown crumbs on the floor, lol
