I just started a new book and I tend to read too fast and miss things, so I decided to read it out loud.  The bunnies are in my sitting room where I was reading, and I noticed that after about 2 pages, I had 3 flopped bunnies! (out of 5)  The other two had hunkered down in bunny loafs in the corner of their cages that was closest to me with one ear directed at me.  So I now read to them every night and some mornings, and I always get a flop or two.  Does anyone else read to their bunnies?  Does it seem to calm them down?

I bet they just like hearing your voice – like the dogs on the RCA label that listen to their master’s voice.

I have had people mention that their rabbits think they are talking to them when they are on the phone – makes sense, since the bunny doesn’t see that you are talking to anyone else so you must be talking to them.

Hmm, you’ll have to try it out! It seems to me that Pinky and Baby would want a story with a strong heroine that beats up criminals! I think mine want to hear “The Chronicles of Narnia”

Lolz…Chronicles is a great choice! After all, the bunnies (and other animals) talk in those and tell the humans what to do! Did you get the mega book that has all the stories under one roof? (with the cute piccy of Caspian on the cover?) ^_^
My bunnies love to hear me read…my cat likes to hear the scriptures, believe it or not…and I often read, sing and talk to them as if they were other people. We all watch/listen to the television together, and they know that certain theme songs mean it’s bedtime/snacktime, etc.
But if I am talking on or dialing my touch tone phone while in the same room with Pip she begins thumping her foot. For some reason the tone noises and my phone voice are unacceptable. :-/
I have the video and the soundtrack from WD and often play it for them. I think they like the story of Frith at the beginning the best!

“If you want to bless me, you’ll have to bless my…bottom!”

this is so bad to say… but i HATE reading out loud. i am a BIG reader of everything… but i too read so fast that reading out loud just trips me up. i can never get into a rhythm and it annoys the heck out of me. plus i think my voice sounds weird reading out loud. so… with that said, i don’t read to Michael as much as i should (i know, i know, bad Beka!) i only do it a few times a week. hmmm… but this has me thinking. i wonder if Michael would sit in the bunny room with me, i culd multitask and read to all of them. maybe during the bonding sessions….?

I read that it is good to talk on the phone around your buns – because they like to hear your voice.
However, I hate to talk on the phone! So, I started to read to my buns when I first got them. They really seem to like it.
They also seem to like it when I sing to them. But, when J. sings – not so much, he, he, he!

I only read my great grandmother’s receipie for Hossenfeffer to them – and that’s when they’ve been naughty.

A suggestion when you get a new rabbit. When you finally get them all put up into their new place, call someone and have a 20-30 minute phone conversation with them. THe buns hearing your voice actually calm down after a short time and actually get much more comfortable.

Yep Mimzmum – I have the GIANT chronicles of narnia book I wish my bunnies could talk! And I’m sure they’ve got plenty they’d like to share with me…

I don’t really like to talk on the phone so much either, so reading out loud works better for me. If I called up someone and started talking to them for a half an hour they would think that there was something wrong with me!

This is so interesting! I guess it’s like if you put a radio on for a dog or a beating clock can calm animals. I noticed Jersey seems to react to instrumental or classical music. She comes running in from outside to acknowledge it and seems more playful and energetic.

As for singing……..when im singing a tune, she does sit calmly looking at me but i think her mind would read ” I have these big ears that pick up every little sound and now you subject me to this!!
