from HRS:   “corn cob litter isn’t absorbent and doesn’t control odor, and has the the risk of being eaten and casing a lethal blockage.”

          Source:  http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/litter.html#litter

i used to use corncob litter with my first rabbit.  it was just one of those things of not knowing what’s best to use.  i knew the wood shavings were a no-no… but i really thought corncob was fine.  once i learned my mistake, i corrected it immediately.

there are other acceptable litters you can use.  they are listed in the link i posted above.  Carefresh is very soft, that might work better for those delicate rex footsies.

edited:  oh, and to answer your other question… corncob is not softer.  it’s almost like little, hard pebbles.

I had a Mini Rex and he seemed happy with the Care Fresh. I had mild allergies too, so it was less dusty for me – used the white as recommended for less dust, but it cost more. I think the natural (recycled, not colored) would be fine if it’s just for footsies.

You might try aspen shavings – those are soft of bunny feet and seem to be more odor absorbent in my experience than Care Fresh and more affordable.

Corncob is definitely a no-no for bunnies.
