I hope help is on the way!  You have got to find a vet for the buns though. Hopefully someone here can direct you to one.  I’ll keep my fingers crossed that Rye gets better soon. I’m so sorry you are going through this.

I am so sorry to hear this is happening! Even if there are no good rabbit vets in town, can you get to a normal vet and tell them what they need to do?

Also, can you try to get your bun to move around? Or tempt him with any kind of treat or veg or anything he might like?

How long has it been since your bunny has pooped? If it has not been at all can you force feed some liquids and critical care? If you don’t have critical care, I once substituted pellets soaked in water (1/3 pellets, and 2/3 water) as a force feeding food.

So does he feel bloated?  Tight?  If so he may have gas.  I use “Little Tummys” which is a gas reliever for babies.  It’s is Simethicone.

There are very important paragraphs in that article that I”ll paste here for urgency sake:

In the article “Gastrointestinal Stasis, The Silent Killer” by Dana M. Krempels, Ph.D, it is recommended that you give 1 cc (20mg/ml suspension) as often as every hour for three doses, then 1 cc every three to eight hours as needed. Examples of brands of simethicone include Ovol, Phazyme and Gas-X, all of which can be purchased at your local drug store. Along with simethicone, applying very light strokes in a circular motion to the rabbit’s abdomen can help move the gas bubbles along. The rabbit should show signs of improvement after 1-2 doses. If symptoms persist, take the rabbit to a rabbit savvy veterinarian.

Important: Gastric Dilation (Volvulus) or severe ‘bloat’ is not the same as a gas episode. With bloat, the stomach becomes extremely hard and grossly distended which can cause the blood supply to be cut off from the stomach or intestine. Bloat can quickly lead to shock and death. If you suspect bloat, do not massage the rabbit’s abdomen, which could make the situation worse. Seek immediate veterinarian attention.

The thing is even if this has been going on for awhile, if your bunny has not eaten and is not drinking, the dehydration can really be dangerous, so I hope that you will be able to locate a vet soon.

I can relate with you. For a long while I had no rabbit vet, just vets who say “yeah we do rabbits” and then have no idea. I did find a vet who seems very knowledgeable here in Moncton. She has many of her own rabbits. I’ve never dealt with her in an emergency situation but she has impressed me with her knowledge so far. If you would like to know her name, if coming to Moncton is an option, pm me.

I would take Dana Krempel’s article with me to the vet and discuss it with the vet – I’ve done that and had no problems.

I really think sub-q fluids are a must with gi stasis. Ask the vet if they will give him sub-q’s and show you how to do this at home for at-home care as well – it’s very easy to do.

The vet will probably need to take an x-ray to determine if it’s a blockage or gas – the gas will be little pockets or bubbles.

Remember too, PAIN MEDS are a must – please insist with the vet that Rye gets PAIN MEDS.

Sounds like you have the emergency priority, which probably means the nearest general vet, and then when he’s out of the woods, the search is on for a vet that is rabbit-savvy and not too far away. (Or willing to do phone consultations with a local vet.)
You have so many animals of different kinds that finding a very good vet is essential for all your guys. You could put one on retainer!

Seriously, I am sure he’ll be OK with all the good advice above – you’re so good with your babies that you’ll take great care of him!

You need to do more than the simethicone if he’s not eating.

I’m so sorry to hear he still isn’t feeling well. Have you gotten any poops out of him yet? If not I think its quite important to get to an emergency vet with the information printed out from the articles that BinkyBunny and I found online – I think you are equipped with enough information to get him the proper treatment! **vibes** to Rye and you!!!
