My bunny has his own room, which he shares with the cats litter boxes and such. I’m working on allowing him more freedom in the house slowly. My question is that when I go into his room, he runs up to me grunting. It seems to be a greeting, he’s never tried to bite me or anything. He usually will flatten himself out in front of me and I pet his back (he doesn’t like his ears touched) and he’ll sit as long as I want to pet him. When I try to walk around he’ll get under my feet and grunt while he follows me around. Is this an aggressive thing or just a quirk he has? It scares my boyfriend a bit, it does sound intimidating, but again, he’s never tried to bite or anything.

Hi, is your bunny neutered? If not it could be hormonal muttering.

Also some rabbits are just more vocal than others. I have a few females that mumble quite a bit too.

He isn’t yet, he’s about 6-7 months old now so he will be soon!

it sounds like he’s ready to be neutered. boys can be neutered as early as 3.5 to 4 months.

Spockie did the same thing to me often. It was LUV.

My guy is very vocal with grunts and growls…mainly if I am being a party pooper and preventing him from doing something stupid or destructive. Being neutered did not change that, and I have to admit I sometimes egg him on. He loves to sit in the recycled paper bag (trader joe shopping bag) and bite his way out. I will tap the bag and he comes exploding out, front feet flailing and grunting and hooting. It is hysterical. My set up is similar to yours and he runs to the gate and grunts if I don’t let him out of the room.

Some buns are vocal. My GF’s bun Georgie used to grunt at everything and everyone. It is rare but nothing to worry about.

But, yeah, get him neutered asap.

yup… both my girls grunt at me.  baby bun is almost 8yrs old & not spayed.  she grunts as she runs over to me for pets when i lay on the floor.  she does this with the dog to.  pinky poo is just over a year old and is spayed and she grunts too.  but not in the same circumstance…  she grunts before she thumps (usually when i discover she’s some where she shouldn’t be, like behind the couch) or if i’m taking too long to pet her or set down her bowl of greens.  she’s very demanding.

Yep, he’s just got an above average dose of rabbitude Its OK, we have a grunter as well, and he’s the smartest sweetest little bunny ever (well, until you become his mortal enemy by trying to trim his nails, but he forgives quickly!)

When I got my Smoochies I never new that bunnies would (what I now call) “talk”. But it pretty much sounds like lots of bunnies do it.

When I come home from being where ever, I always have to hunt for her, cause she is hiding. Then I pet her and tell her  I missed her and she “talks” / grunts and tells me what she did while I was gone.

When I first started to noticed that she did this, I called her “Smoochies The Magical Talking Bunny!”

Well now I see she is not very magical becuase lots of buns do this

                                        Of Course she is magical!!!

It’s like in the Little Prince, when he discovers a field of roses after thinking he had the only rose in existence. He learns that she is special because she’s the one he tends, and protects and loves.

and ditto on the uber cute avatar!

grunting is just another way some buns express themselves, and is not always aggressive. mine does it when she is excited, no aggression at all intended.

All my buns “grunt” for different reasons. I think since they are so limited in the amount of sounds they can make that thats why you hear grunts as much as we do.
Carrera grunts ALL the time. Anytime we are near her she is grunting. I think ever since she realized as a baby she could grunt that she does it all the time. Hoopie only does it when he is scared. Cooper rarely does it. Pookie grunts when she is mad which is hilarous hearing this loud grunt coming from a 2lb dwarf. lol

Foofy grunts like crazy! He does it when he is mad, but also when he is greeting us and even sometimes when we walk past him without giving him the attention he feels he deserves.

Funnies thing though, our Loppy will give us a “kiss” (not licking, just basically bumping her nose to your nose/mouth) is you make a kissy noise. Foofy, for the most part, ignores us when we do that but every once in a while we try to make him do it before he gets a raisin. If he wants it bad enough he will give us a kiss, but he lets us know how much he hates it by grunting at the same time!!!
