So when i bought Ralphie the sales person told me he has to have Timothy hay everyday. Now that i’ve looked around there are a bunch of kinds of hay. I bought him some Alfalfa cubes and he loves them. My question is are the cubes a treat or a form of hay in a cube?  And can he have Alfalfa hay everyday in place of the Timothy hay? He loves the cubes so I’m assuming (you know what they say about that!) he would love the hay.

Rabbits should have grass hay daily (timothy, orchard, etc.). It should be available to them at all times.

Alfalfa hay can be used as a treat and can the alfalfa cubes.

Alfalfa is not a substitute for timothy hay as it is not a grass hay.

grass hays are Timothy, Brome, Oat, and Orchard. i think everything BinkyBunny sells is grass hay. BinkyBunny does sell timothy hay cubes too, so if your bunny really likes them, that’s an option as well. i’d get those over the alfalfa cubes.

alfalfa is legume hay. it’s higher in calcium (and i believe protien too). it’s fine for bunnies under 7 months to have it along with timothy hay, but it should be fed in very limited amounts (if at all) after 7 months.

After trying to get my buns to all be hay crazy…I only use BB hay.  This site put me onto the BB 6 blend, which was Jessica’s favorite–she’d go through a hay ball every 2 days.  I just ordered the orchard and blue blend (I believe that was it) or whatever BB recommended as the 6 blend replacement.  I gave them their first batch last night and it looks like it went over well.  I prefer the BB hay b/c it is so fresh!  Also we had a previous forum about “stuff” found in commercial hays…BB assured us that we would find NONE of that stuff in Binky hay.

I still think Binky should offer a hay taster pack w/ small bags of all the different blends so you can see what your bun prefers.  Binky I’m throwing that idea out again.
