Hi there! I’m new and have a few questions about bonding. I have a mini lop (Nicky) and a rex (Maddie).

I am in the process of bonding them and everything is going amazingly well! They were snuggling on the first date and have yet to show 1 sign of aggressive behavior (4th date today). The only thing is, they’re not grooming yet. They’re both presenting themselves like crazy, but neither has started. I’ve read about smearing a bit of banana above their noses. Has anyone tried this? Does it work? Is it ridiculous? Do I just have a pair that won’t groom?

Thanks in advance! Oh, and my love buns:

Oh what cuties. I’ve never tried it but I know people that have tried and I don’t think it’s always successful. Give them time though they may groom in their own time at least they are getting along well and that’s a big thing. It’s only been 4 dates after all :~)

First of all, congradulations on your progress. How long has it been since you bonded the pair? I think it took a while til my buns were grooming each other. So as long as they are getting along, I dont think you have anything to worry about.

Shessh! If they snuggle down next to each other, yer there. Yer done! The grooming will come with time. You don’t even need to use banana to intice grooming. Even just some water sprinkled on their fur will cause them to want to clean the other. Rabbits are OCD about their fur – even other bun’s fur so if something looks amiss, they’ll try to fix it.

Ahh, true. I refer to my bunnies as “freaks of nature” because of thier ridiculously easy bonding. Grooming will come in time and I don’t want to force it!

your buns are gorgeous!  let us know when they give it up & start grooming (i’m sure they’re just being demure since they took to each other so quickly).
