my flight to mexico will cost me 3600 air miles and in reality i’ll only have a fraction of that saved up.  there are 25 spending weeks before i go but really only 12 or 13 before we have to book a flight.  can i redeem what i have to knock some $$ off of my flight?  has anyone ever done that?  i want to find out how much it’d actually save me before i go nuts going out of my way to buy things where they have air miles.

No I do not believe you can do that. You can’t apply partial miles to the reduce the cost of a ticket. I’m almost certain.

ok i found this in their website’s faqs…

            You Asked:

Most similar question and answer found:

When redeeming for a Package Vacation or Cruise, do I need the full amount of reward miles?

            Answer:

No you don’t - depending on your balance of reward miles you can choose how many you want to use and if necessary pay for a portion or all of your vacation in cash.  AND, on the cash portion you will earn 1 reward mile for every $25 you spend (excluding taxes and fees).

so i think i’ll just try to hit up air mile reward places to shop and then just see what kind of deal i can get when its time to buy tickets.  if it ends up i can’t use them then… oh well… another trip some where right?  luckily for me the liquor store & gas station offer rewards – haha.

Whoa!  What airline is this?  I don’t think United does this.  That’s great.

i don’t even know… it was a general faq for air miles & not with a particular airline as far as i can tell.  i emailed them my question incase i’m misinterpreting ‘package’ for ‘flight’.  i hadn’t even thought that diff arilines may have diff rules.  very confusing.  lol.

Airmiles is a program up here in Canada that’s not airline-specific. You earn points on purchases at participating stores, or by using an Airmiles branded credit card, or both. You can then redeem the points for flights or merchandise.

Babybunsmum, keep in mind that Airmiles can’t be used on all flights, and often there’s no availability on the flights that you want. Hubby and I tried to use our miles for flights to see his family in LA over Christmas. We tried to book them in February and they were already out of availability for it. Make sure you have a plan B in mind. Also compare the pricing with airfare from a travel agent – we have access to consolidator (bulk) fares that aren’t available online and there’s a chance it might be cheaper than what you’d pay even with using airmiles as a partial payment.

lol… k&d.  must be diff in canada then.  i’m not at all surprised

i did some flight costing for fun last night (i know prices will change but i was curious for a comparison) and geees louise there’s a huge $$ diff between some flights!  i can see that some air miles may not make a dint compared to taking a flight with a stop over.

i’m surprised i’m not packing yet.  23 weeks to go!
