i made a new enclosure for baby bun yesterday believe it or not as another step towards bonding her and pinky poo.   i want her to get used to an enclosure – she has been so used to having her whole bedroom free to roam – so that i can eventually slide it next to pinky’s enclosure and they can have visual access only to each other.  this, along with switching them between enclosures, will be an important step for them to bond i think.  the enclosure design is such that the black panels can be removed & it can be joined to pinky’s enclosure if they ever do bond so they can then share an expanded space.

here’s a vid of baby bun exploring her new digs.  she’s a pro at navigating the levels now btw

thanks!  the hay / litter bin & middle level are that plastic sign board stuff (cholorplast?)  and the top level i have ceramic tiles with newspaper under as a padding (otherwise the tiles clang on the nic grids).  i’ll be putting a faux-sheepskin wrapped piece of sign board on the middle level as soon as the wash is done which will help for traction.

hmmm… good question beka.  i’m dragging my feet a bit with any bonding attempts beyond moving dino back & forth since baby’s second eye gouging.  my hesitation is that i’d have to move baby into pinky’s room because of the size of both cages together and baby has been in her room for ever.  i feel cruel ousting her until after she’s gotten her eye flush ordeal over with… just seems like a lot of upset for her wee little self to endure.  am i being too protective?

what does the vet say? it is possible that she’s going to be having eye issues for the rest of her (many) days. i think if you’re going to do it, you need to commit to it, as long as it’s okay for her health-wise.

neither vet has said a thing about bonding either for or against.  baby’s runny eyes *could* be chronic…. right now the flushing is being done an hours drive away so it’s a bit more of an ordeal but if it ends up being needed regularily my reg vet can do it.  i was really moslty worried about the fact that i’m not quick enough some times to prevent pinky biting her eye – which has happened twice now causing much irritation to her already runny eye.

after all that rambling i realize that now i know what was the root of baby’s runny eyes (it’s not contagious / masking an underlying health issue) it’s actually ok to go ahead full steam.  just need a new strategy for interfering with pinky’s biting.  on that note… i recently picked up a dollar store splatter screen to help me with future sessions!
