Here’s Maury’s story. I’m sure he never saw a strand of hay in his life!  He is so gorgeous. If anyone can help even a little it would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks.

        Maury

        Maury (boy)

        Status: Special Needs
Shelter of Origin: San Francisco Animal Care and Control

Maury is a super-cute, small golden Holland lop boy who comes to SaveABunny with one of the worst dental cases we have ever seen. When I met Maury at San Francisco Animal Care and Control he had recently been abandoned at the shelter by someone who just no longer wanted him.

After doing rescue work for nearly ten years it is almost instinct to quickly spot a rabbit in need. Maury’s face was dirty and wet and he clearly had not been able to groom his underside either.

A look at his teeth immediately revealed the problem which had somehow been missed at the shelter and not noted by his owner.

His upper incisors had grown so long that they were curved inwards and had started to grow into the roof of his mouth. His lower teeth were broken. It was clear that he was suffering and needed emergency rescue or euthanasia. Time was of the essence, since the San Francisco shelter (SFACC)unfortunately has a new strict euthanasia time frame for rabbits, so we had to make a decision fast. We chose to rescue Maury, even though his teeth will need to be surgically removed, which will cost us about $500+.

After his teeth are removed Maury will be able to live a virtually normal life. He’s adorable, very nice and certainly deserves more than what humans have done for him until now.

We really need your help to raise funds for his medical care.
Thank you for caring for Maury and we will update you on his progress.

Click here to make a donation towards Maury’s care is also greatly appreciated and tax deductible.
Checks can be made out to “SaveABunny” or “Friends of San Francisco Animal Care and Control” and mailed to: P.O. Box 2143, Mill Valley, CA 94942

I’m currently being housed at SaveABunny waiting to be adopted.

Poor Maury – what a sweet, sweet boy. Our rescue just recently helped a bunny named Monkey with the same issues – poor thing almost starved to death! I am glad Maury is in good hands and will get the help he needs – good luck Maury!

I was over at Save A Bunny today and saw Maury.  He is a sweet boy and had his teeth removed yesterday or  a couple days before that.  All he has left are his molars.  He is already eating hay and doing really well.  I may just have to get him.  He is so adorable and quite small.

He looks like Mimzy, but blonde. ^_^ Awes, what a sweetums!

I have to admit, there are days I get nipped by my buns I think it might be nice for them to not have front teeth, but YIKES, poor Maury! I HATE going to the dentist myself, so I can only imagine how painful this must’ve been for this poor little guy!

Sending healing vibes his way! (((((((Maury))))))))) Knowltons, if you get him I will be SOOO jealous! ^_^ But he would look so good sitting next to Edison! A matched set!

I also ran into Maury this weekend. The guy is nothing but curious and wanting to be social. Even when I was using a very noisy shop vac to clean out his cage, he wasn’t scared and even sniffed the intake a couple of times. All I could imagine was sucking up his lil face so I had to keep him busy with some head pets while I worked.

He’s my little love bug.  I wonder if it would be insane to try and bond him with Edson? Maury has no teeth and Edson is as sweet as they come! Maury is not neutered yet so I wouldn’t want to get him until he is.  What do you all think?

What do *I* think? I think I should say – “Congratulations on adopting sweet precious Maury!”

                            YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!

                            Tee hee….

Bonding two males is easier than two females. Of course, Edson has the final say on who he likes and who he doesn’t during speed dating.

Why don’t you just take Edson with you the next time you go and have them get acquainted?

I bet Maury feels so much better, since both his gums can heal and the areas he was hitting with the teeth are getting relief now. Does he have soft foods too, like pumpkin?

I can’t until he’s neutered and healed from his mouth surgery.

Rabbitpam – nope, no soft foods. He has hay and pellets just like any other bun. The only issue with missing his front teeth is that you can’t give him treats like whole carrots – you have to cut them very small or shred them. He has nothing to take ‘bites’ with but he can eat greens and hay like spaghetti.

If I was in CA, ahem, I’d scoop maury up, in a beat  =)

you should bring Edson with you, knowltons,  to see how those two like each other [or not], kind of a “test date”. of course, it’ll be a while, since you have to wait for the surgery being over/recovery.

I think, they really would be a great couple, though…
