… used to take care of Velvet and Dancer at the shelter!!!!!!!!!!!
The House Rabbit Society celebrated its 20th anniversary and of course, I had to be there. The rabbit store is about 5 minutes (if that!) from my house… y’all jealous? Haha! I am SO LUCKY!!! Anyway, everybody there seems to know Velvet and Dancer and they are aware of the fact that they loved my husband from the beginning on but had to get used to me. It is so very heartwarming to me knowing that so many volunteers care for each other and the bunnies! So there I was and a very lovely lady approached me. “Oh, you have them now? They are home with you?” And I told her all about them (and once I start, I won’t shut up for the next two hours!), how they run in the dining room and kitchen whenever we are home, how sweet they are now, how bonded they are, how happy Velvet is now… That lady is the one who begged HRS to get Velvet out or else, she would have been killed. She told me how frantic Velvet was at the shelter, how very scared she was, so scared that she would uncontrollably bite left and right and attack. And then, I would tell her how sweet she is now and how loving she is and that she will flop over on her side just to be cuddled and kissed and loved and how Dancer gives her a million kisses all the time (she looooves to be groomed!!!) and how fast they got bonded (within 1 week, they were inseperable) and all that and then we hugged (*BREATHE, Liza, BREATHE!*). The volunteer was so happy and so was I to finally meet her!
I volunteer a lot (about 40 hours per month or more) and it is mainly because of volunteers that the life of shelter animals is enriched and/or saved. If you can spare any time, please sign up for a volunteering position! I am so very grateful for these bunnies, I believe I am the luckiest person out there – only because of volunteers like the lady I met yesterday!
