  tonight i had my cuddle sessions with baby & pinky as usual… baby’s facewash & cuddle first and then pinky’s. tonight pinky snuggled in under my chin (i lay on the couch in her room) and gave kisses / got pets. i was basking in the cuddles… i love looking at her sweet face when she’s all snuggly like that… so angelic. hah. after a while i stopped petting her. usually she’ll shift about & poke her head at my face for more but this time she nipped my chest! i yelped loudly and she jumped away startled. then she grunted and bit my arm! geesh! i yelped again and tryed to hold her head down to assert dominance over her and she wreslted with me!! she wouldn’t sit still and let me hold her head down! i tried this a few times and then got off the couch.
  
  i’m still a bit freaked. but i can think of 2 possible reasons for what the heck happened. i cleaned baby’s anal glands tonight too & at one point had her bum area pressed against me. do you think smelling her on my shirt could have set pinky off like this? i usually wash baby’s face & cuddle her before pinky’s cuddle but i wonder if her anal scent was on my shirt this time? another possibility… i had pinky on the porch earlier & furbinated her & got some grunts. do you think she held a grudge about this?

  I bet the other scents on you caused this. I know that after volunteering at the rabbit rescue, if I don’t throw my clothes in the wash and take a shower right away, then Rucy will bite me…Hard! And Jack will spray me. Not a fun way to be greeted!

  I agree with BinkyBunny.
  You might find a thin sweater or shirt that is strictly a Pinky cuddle shirt that you could throw on no matter what else you’re wearing. It will eventually retain her scent and she might be more secure. Sounds like she is doing great and really loves you! (And I think they do hold grudges – at least you can find them in a bad mood one day, especially if you gave them a reason earlier.)

  i was hoping for feedback like this! thanks. phew. i’ve come to really love our cuddles & i’d hate to be scared off of them for fear of loosing a finger or eyeball. i’ll def watch what i’m wearing next time.

  yeah it’s probably that. that disappoints me tho b/c if she reacts this strongly to her scent, will they be able to bond?

  i was thinking that too beka. it’ll be a long long long bonding process if they *can* bond thats for sure.
  
  the last bonding session she was still trying to nip baby but because i set them in a penned area there was stuff to do / explore that kept her & baby busy without being in each others faces. my plan is to do many many many of these sessions and just consistantly interrupt any biting attempts by holding her head down. i’ll continue to do this unless one of the buns starts to show signs of depression and i think its best for their health to stop.
  
  i’ll need to see pinky not trying to nip baby consistantly for a very long time before i’ll feel comfortable that they’re bonded thats for sure!

  You could try the stunt double technique. Check out the Bonding Info page and scroll down toward the bottom of the page where it says “Stunt Double”. Might help them calm down prior to meeting.

  ahhh… right… thanks BB! i remember reading about stunt doubles long before this bonding adventure. it hadn’t occured to me to try this. i’m going to re-read about it and search for suitable stunt double candidates.
