I belong to a Yahoo bunny chat group.  Here is a plea from Rabbit Haven.  If anyone who is local can help out, that would be great!  The contact info is below.  Thanks!!!

        Hello bunny Family

The Santa Cruz County fire is still ongoing and although 70% containment has be reached, thousands of acres have burned,  many people have lost their homes, and hove no place to go.  Hundreds of animals have been placed in shelter and rescue stations.  The Rabbit Haven has been incredibly busy handling calls from the community and connecting to local resources and assisting in the temp housing of community animals displaced by the fire.

Shelters in the fire zone of  Santa Cruz county are overwhelmed with rabbits and in need of help.   The Rabbit Haven is also taking in community rabbits directly (to house temp),   helping with private intakes,  transports and assisting  the shelters too- We have had the wonderful help of the  Santa Cruz County SPCA and both shelter rabbits advocates from the county shelters .

There is help for dogs,  cats and for many horses, but Rabbits, birds and other exotics have no system in place to provide for their care.  So, the adoptable,  spayed neutered rabbits are being displaced by incoming animals – We are bring asked to rescue only from the county shelter.  Sadly,  the Haven does not have open permanent rescue space available now – We do have aprox 30 temp foster sites standing ready to house for 2-4 weeks.   These are not wanted by the shelter. So, these are going to be used by the community rabbits.  We are also Open to taking in birds and a variety of other small animals  who no longer have a home. Working  with our rescue partners, Cavy House, LaHonda rescue,  NOrthstar and Micaboo, we have good symtems in place for these other animals in need.

We need to focus on rabbits!  They need homes right away.  No intra shelter transfer happened for rabbits.  Likely as this is May and most shelter are likely full already with unwanted post Easter rabbits.

I was at the shelter Friday and there are crates sitting all over with cats, small dogs and the rabbit room is jammed . . To assist the shelters we are placing shelter direct links to Scotts Valley and Watsonville RABBITS that need adoption or rescue. This special link will be on our web today! http://www.therabbithaven. org.  We also opened addition show space to the shelter at our last adoption show last  Sat.

The rabbit Haven needs rescue sites,  adoptions and long term fostering sites .  Compassion adoptions are available now.  We will rescue if there is a party wishing to adopt.  The Watsonville  shelter has 15 adoptable rabbits needing out.  I lost count at SV shelter after 28. I learned five more came in Saturday.

Precision pen pick up needed by Haven and the shelter. We  have pens waiting for us at HRS and need transport down to Campbell or Sunnyvale. Can anyone bring them down?

If you can help in any way please call Heather at the Rabbit Haven – 831 239-7119 or Email  riector@therabbithaven.org” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow” ymailto=”mailtoriector@therabbithaven.org”>Driector@therabbith aven.org–
Email  is really the very best way to reach me now as my cell phone fills up quickly – I want to be sure to catch any offer of rescue or support.

We are making a trip over into the fire zone Tuesday and I hope to get a few out then-   If anyone wants to help us help the shelters and the community, please act today- Email to let me know who you can rescue or foster long term. , If you have supplies to donate  for these rabbits, birds  please call me and I will direct you where to bring your supplies. We are in need or precision pens and marchiros Tommy 120 cages, mats for the pens, all sorts of supply.

We are not able to rescue any additional rabbits without rescue support. We can offer temp housing (2-4 weeks) for up to 20 for community rabbits.

donate or Sponsor:  Those wanting to help who cannot rescue can sponsor a rabbit or provide for a spay/ neuter or vet exam at our local clinics .  Or you can  donate supply.  Contact for Other living things in Sunny vale http://www.forotherlivingt hing.com to purchase by phone and donate supplies we can pick up they are close to our distribution area.

If I was able to take home one, I’d want to take them all. I’ll probably donate an then go hug my two bunnies so I feel like I’m doing something worthwhile.
