        UGH FRIDAYS!

I have had the worst day >.< I came home to find the bunny leads I ordered from the internet had come. I was really excited to try them out so I went down to the garden with hopscotch securely fastened and let him run around, he enjoyed it immensely! After about 20mins or running about with me following behind him the buckle was beginning to come loose on the side, I’m not sure what happened but I think it got caught in his fur anyway he jumped high into the air as he tried to get away from the naught lead which was hurting him, as a result the lead had got caught round his hind leg and he was caught he let out that blood curdling bunny scream (which made me cry it was so bad I never want to hear that noise again for as long as I live!!) and he began madly dashing around trying to get free, in the end I had to pin him down (whilst he was still screaming) and cut the harness away from him as now the whole thing was tangled around the harness, I was absolutely terrified so god only knows how he felt, once he was free he jumped up and let out one final squawk. I picked him up and gave him a big cuddle brought him inside and spoilt him with lots of parsley and such, he refused at first but once he had calmed down he was fine, he gave his poor old leg a lick and looked a bit sorry for himself but thankfully he was back to his usual self almost instantly. THANK GOD! I was so scared, I have been going to check on him every five minutes, I think he told the story to Daxter as soon as he got back in his house as Daxter seemed to be giving him extra kisses, he is fine now and is coming over to me when I go in and taking treats from my hand so I think he is fine, he isn’t walking differently or anything, but it’s just been one of those days, I was so frightened I have never been so scared in my life, ugh

Anyway just needed a little rant thanks guys!

oh my gosh poor you poor bun. I have heard that sound from cotton once.  oh dread sounded like a woman screaming. scared me I felt so bad. wow what a scary experience with the harness and leash oh my. you poor things. I am so careful with cotton about his leash tangling around his legs I would hate for something to happen to any bun that is so scary I am glad you both recovered.  Daxter must be thinking oh gosh when that thing is put on me I am staying absolutely still. they sure can run fast when terrified can’t they. awe. I am sure next time it will be much easier it was just a fluke accident. albeit very frightening one

yes its not something i will ever EVER be trying again, my main message here was (well im kinda feeling sorry for myself but other than that) i dont think they are a good idea for people to use, i was literally like 2 steps behind him and he jumped in the air (kinda like a binky) got tangled and in a split second was screaming there was nothing i could have done, so there is no chance i will ever be putting one of them on any of my bunnies again ever.

If you want to hear a screaming rabbit, there’s on on Youtube. Apparently it doesn’t like its owner mocking it. I wish I could see its ears because – well it might just be a really strange bun that thinks squealing is communication.

Now imagine that noise while the bun is tangled up – you’d swear it was breaking its leg.

honestly markusdark i was scared. i actually thought it had cut through his leg or something the noise he was making, he had no bruises or cuts or anything no marks whatsoever but the noise was as if the rope was half way through his leg, i was SO scared i actually went and cried afterwards because i just felt so shaken

I think I’ve seen that vid, Markus, and I hate it. It’s the one with the woman singing and the bunny can’t stand it, right? (Dumb broad!) At least, I HOPE that’s the only one of it’s kind and I won’t look at it, I think it’s cruel. Reminds me of that horrible story that was a big movie when I was young, “When Rabbit Screams”-which was about a girl who was abused by her father for years. (Apparently the title refers to him killing her pet rabbit to scare/punish her and the poor thing screaming.) YUCK!

Anyway K&D, I am so sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with the lead. (looks at the two she’s bought for her buns that she’s never used) I am actually just too chicken in general to put harnesses on my buns…I’ve tried them on my cats and they are a disaster! My cats are not outdoor, except for our feral one, and she walks right down the road with you and hisses and growls warnings at dogs and other cats…she’s quite capable of following us without assistance. I would love to ‘walk’ my bunnies, but I think I’m going to have enough fun with the big tent we bought to take them outside in. That way, we avoid other animals, poor weather, mozzies and the worry that they will dart off/dig out and get lost. No matter how they go outdoors, they will be supervised. I just can’t bear the thought of anything happening to them.

Big hugs for you, dear! (((((((((((K&D)))))))))))) I’m sure we’ve all done something we regret when it comes to bunny care, but you know…they are the most forgiving little creatures I have ever come across. I am sure Hopscotch knows it was an accident and he has forgiven you. Just give lots of extra cuddles and noserubs, he’ll be fine.
Lolz…that he ‘told on you’ to Dax! ^_^ I can just see that. Conspiratorial bunny whispers. 0.o Boy are we ALL in trouble!

Which reminds me…does anyone here think that perhaps bunnies DO communicate in some soundless way, even if they can’t see each other? My two are in their pens stacked one above the other and cannot see each other unless they are in the xpen. But sometimes I think one of them tells the other one what is happening to him: like a quiet cuddle or a treat that made no noise. And Pip (who is in the ‘top bunk’) tends to do more thumping than Mimzy down below, and I think she realizes she can make a bigger noise than he can since she isn’t perched on anything more solid than the bars of Mimzy’s roof and some cardboard as a buffer. She seems to be the ‘lookout bun’ of the two.

I just keep thinking of those cute Homeward Bound movies; where the animals communicate to one another but the people don’t hear it of course. I already know my cats can tell one another things from across the room, I just wonder if bunnies do that too?

I hate that “scared out of your wits helpless” feeling.
I never heard Spockie scream (thank God – I would have fallen apart) but the only time I ever saw him completely PANIC was when I tried to put a harness on him! I got a soft one, the cloth kind. I thought he was missing something by never going outside with me. Well, I could only get half of it on him when he bolted. His legs were tangled and it was dragging but he ran and ran and ran. I also pinned him and managed to get it off of him without any noticeable damage. Just thought we’d both have a heart attack on the spot. NEVER again. (I have been so envious of those of you who describe your nice times with your bunnies in harnesses.) Try deep breathes, K&D.

Bunnies are an advanced species and are telepathic. They don’t need speech. If Spockie had a problem, like a messy poopie on his platform, I’d feel like he was calling me at work, so would go straight home asap. Sure enough he’d need me to do something, like clean up or refill the water dish – whatever is so important to a bunny that he has to “call” Mum at work. (The maintenance guy stopped by to fix something – stuff like that.)

So obviously he told Daxter “If you don’t want that awful thing tied around you just scream your head off and run like hell!!!

Oh wow that must have been so scary.  I have NEVER heard a bunny scream so I am going to listen to that youtube video.  Glad things are ok.  I hate the idea of a harness because of how fragile buns are.

When Marilyn’s babies were about a month old, one of them screamed when I tried to pick him up to take him out of their cage.  It was really weird because they were handled all the time, and he never did it before or after that one time.  I suppose I caught him by surprise or something, but I agree, it is a terrible sound.
