        Toki, my male, is shedding like he’s about to go bald.  I’m noticing that he has been acting strange lately, acting differently.  He seems that he wants to be left alone and dont want any contact with me.  This is very opposite of how he normally is.

        For three years that I had him, he never grunted at me once. But he grunted at me today. I cant even brush him because he wont let me touch a single hair.  I’m assuming that he’s sensitive because he’s shedding. But is there a correlation between the two?

          someone else had mentioned their bun got grumpy too during a molt.  the only thing I noticed was bun kept backing his hiney into the couch cushion so I couldn’t brush it ahahhaah. poor little fellow. the furminator comes highly recommended. I only had to brush every other day then once a week. I brushed too much and brushed cotton’s skirt plum off. he has a little bit left of it and hopefully it will be growing back real soon.

          ye gads a roach on the ceiling where’s the broom eeeek. at least it won’t fly at me. not that kind of a roach

                  just about two months ago Smudge went through a molt, she was losing hair like crazy and it was a little scary to see, but she has alot of hair to loose and she seemed okay except that the top of her head became bare, she litterally had a little pink bald spot right on the top of her head. She was VEEEERRRRRYYYY self conscious of this spot. She would not let me touch the spot or bring the brush near her and she was constantly washing her face and ears and “feeling” the spot and then getting very upset. I was worried because I’d never seen her skin during a bad shedding time. The vet said not to worry that she was just “exchanging for a new coat”. I left her alone and only tried to brush her when she was in a less grumpy mood but she’d grunt and back away. The spot itself has grown back in in a thick patch of dark brown hair! She is normally a light and dark grey and white color. I’ve also noticed this brown coming in other spots on her body where she lost alot of hair. She is much happier now and back to her normal amount of shedding. She is back to loving being brushed and grooming herself. Hope my experience helps a bit! You know your bun, follow what your heart is telling you.

                    How long has Toki been acting like this? Is he still eating and pooping normally? I would keep a close eye on his eating habits, and if he stops eating, get him to a vet right away. The reason I say this is that sometimes bunny’s will try to hide any illness’s, so the fact that he is acting withdrawn could mean that he is not feeling well. I’d recommend keeping a close eye on him for any other possible indications of illness, such as the not eating.

                      There’s nothing wrong with him other than the shedding. I’m concerned because of the amount of hair that he’s eating. Rabbits cant throw up their hairballs like cats. So I’ve heard that it’s important to brush the bun while shedding.

                      Since he wont let me brush him, it’s making me worry.

                        Pip is going through a shedfest right now too and she also is acting a bit moody. Lots of foot thumping and she seems easily startled all of a sudden. Both she and Mimzy seem on the sleepy side a bit more often than they used to be. I keep thinking it’s a seasonal thing.
                        She doesn’t mind being groomed though, in fact she welcomes it. They both do. Mimzy will pout if he doesn’t get a daily ‘love glove’ session.
                        But boy…talk about cranky bun! >.< I'm used to Pip being the more emotional of the two, but it's gone overboard lately.

                        And don’t most bunnies blow their coat about the same times each year? It’s like a 100th monkey thing…. 0.o;

                        I worry when my bunnies seem to be ‘off’ for what appears to be no good reason. I’d check with a vet myself in this situation.

                          From my research, bunnies shed every 3-4 month. Some can be more intense than the other. Right now, TOki is having the worst shedding of all! Before, he would barely loose any hair for me to notice. But right now, he’g got few bold spots and he has lost his mane too!

                          Vet said that he seems fine other than shedding and that I should be concerned with the amount of hair he might be eating. I’m trying to find a bunny groomer that can help me groom him. I found one lady but she lives sorta far. Anyone know a bunny groomer in the bay area?

                            Also during this time, encourage more fiber intake – hay, hay, hay!

                              Pepper gets PMS – Pre-Moulting Syndrome

                              She is moody and grumpy all through a big shed.  Not sure if it’s the hormones, if it’s itchy, or if she just KNOWS she looks funny.  I just make sure she’s eating OK and her poops look fine, and leave her alone.
