Boy is the forum giving me grief today! >.< This is the second post I've had to redo!

A few pictures (sorry about the poor quality) of that elusive little wild hare that runs through our neighborhood. ^_^ (You can barely see him through the grasses and assorted stuff blocking the shot.)

Also, one of life’s little miracles; we have the most beautiful little lady slipper type orchids that bloom here every spring. I don’t know how these delicate 4-6 inch tall flowers make it through our ghastly winters every year to push up through the tough forest moss, but each March-May they arrive. They are late this year, and I feel that it will be a short summer.

I included something only BinkyBunny.com members could appreciate. WILD BUNNY POOP!

          Very cool, MM.
When I finally spot the hare it looks like a ghost rabbit.
I had trouble a bit this morning. Glad you kept trying.

Yes that hare does look like a ghost!  Wild poops look just like indoor bunny poops!  Very funny.  I think the site is super SLOW today because I am also having some problems…

Oh nice plants … and of course Wild Bunny.

Just as a matter of interest … has anyone owned or know of anyone who has ever owned a wild bunny?

I never have, but trust me, if I thought this little guy didn’t have a family, he’d come home with me somehow! ^_^
And actually, I was thinking it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to go tromping around where they leave their scat, because I know that wild hares can carry diseases that can be transmitted to house bunnies and I wouldn’t want that to happen to my two little babies.

Bunnycraze mentioned fostering a leveret in another thread, but I don’t’ recall which one now. She let it go after it had strengthened up though.

At least in California, it is illegal to keep any kind of wild animal unless you are a licensed rehabber.  Animal Control will fine you, seize the animals and then kill them.  Funny how Animal Control always ends up with a reason to kill them, but that is for a different thread.  I read of a case where a family had adopted an injured deer and nursed it back to health, and since the deer was too tame to live in the wild AC was going to kill it.  I don’t really know what happened in that case.

Oh, he’s so pretty – what cool camouflage! Yep, you don’t want to keep him or even try, it is illegal unless you are a licensed rehabber.

                          The flowers are pretty too.

I saw a young opposum crossing the street the other day, wish I had a camera. I had never seen one alive before and that young – it kind of freaked me out. He was pretty cute. I hope he made it safely to his destination.

It’s hard to tell. Jack rabbits are usually pretty big with ginormous ears. It’s hard to tell his size because there’s nothing to compare him to and his ears seem pretty small. Nonetheless he is pretty cool! And I love the lady slippers, too!

I wouldn’t say he was much bigger than Pip, and she’s a good 3-4 lb bun with a looong body, but those ears are deceptive. Makes them look taller than they really are. I love the second pic…looks like a cartoon rabbit with the front feet tucked under the big stretched out back feet. xD

I wouldn’t really want to keep a wild one, I think it’s just too hard on them to be captive, but I would wish I could. ^_^ They are just so beautiful!
I didn’t’ know that about the SPCA…seems kinda pointless really.

I know they are good enough at caring for themselves…and it’s weird how the populations will rise and fall…one year we have bunnies all over hte place…the next it’s foxes you see crossing the road (gosh they are beautiful for predators!) and once in awhile a wildcat, wolf or (eep!) a grizzly. I remember riding my bike around our backyard track and coming upon a pile of something I KNEW wasn’t doggie doo.
0.o; I don’t go back there without a dog on lead with me now.
