I am moving into my first house in 11 days, guys!!

I can’t believe it’s getting so close; and personally I cannot wait. I haven’t posted about it, but you remember I was having a lot of trouble with my barn owner where my gelding Kayo is? Well, she decided to let the (@*# hit the fan and went like, ballistic on me via email. All I am waiting for is to hear from the Rural Planning Commission to get the O.K. to have a horse on my new property (which I should, since there is a horse next door) and then I am giving her my 30 days notice.

I still have a lot of packing to do; but today is a holiday and it’s raining outside so I should spend the day packing I guess.

Work has been going well, very busy but my coworkers are great so I am happy with it.

I am trying to figure out when to get Aren, my sheltie pup. I haven’t told my parents about her (even though I am an adult and can make my own choices, lol) because I don’t want the “You don’t need another pet!” lecture…>.< Which I have gotten constantly about the buns. Oh well, I am an adult and at this age (21) lectures just kind of wash by, since I'm on my own and they can't control over me anymore!

Anyway, so my choices for Aren are: (1) get her before I move, which means keeping her at the apartment for a few days. Problem: we aren’t allowed dogs, but if I’m leaving anyways……?

        (2) Get Aren the day after I move; since I have requested 3 days off, my dad is coming on the 30th with the truck to help me move. I thought he was just going to come for the Friday but upon further discussion sounds like he might be planning to stay longer. If I went on the 31st to get Aren, that is a 6 hour round trip that takes up much of the day and if dad was still here that might conflict with moving if he’s planning to do it over the weekend. Plus, then he’d know I had her! But the plus to that – is then I would have a couple days with Aren to help her get settled before I go back to work.

        (3) Wait until I get a day off after I move and have been working to get Aren. Problem: It may only be one day off for the week, and that day would be getting her (6 hour trip) and then I would be off to work immediately the next day. Additionally, I do want to get her as soon as I can!

Those are the 3 options I came up with…#2 is looking very plausible. And I guess I should get over it and realize the parents will find out about Aren soon enough, and hopefully they will be understanding that Aren is in Sandy’s honor.

Anyway…I guess that’s all for now, guys!

          Hi, LL,
Boy, do I know about the packing! I am FINALLY in my folks home with stuff unpacked that I couldn’t get my hands on for about a week (like checkbooks to pay bills) and my storage unit is stuffed to the gills with most of my belongings since this is temporary.

Very glad to hear that your situation with Kayo is resolved, albeit in a lousy way. I think you’ll really love having one of the horses right there with you.

My honest opinion about Aron is, well, I’m more of a chicken than you are when it comes to the parent/perm. issue. I think you’re going to have your hands very, very full on moving weekend, and remember you have to settle in a lot of bunnies and pigs in the new house. They will need some time to get acclimated too. My suggestion is to wait for about a week to pick up Aron. It takes a few days just to set up your groceries, medicine cabinets, pet food supplies, etc. If you drove up on a Friday night or very early on a Saturday morning (assuming your two days off are Sat/Sun. This would apply before any two-days you have off though) you would be getting her at the start of 2 days together. The house would be mostly unpacked, leaving less possible mischief for a puppy. The others would know their environment. You will be leaving Aron for work her whole adult life, so she needs you to adjust but she also needs to know the routines to expect. I just think you might appreciate the breathing room and then can focus your attention on her in a more undivided way.

You know I always have an opinion, right? Many, many well wishes on this wonderful new start in your life.

remember you’re going to need to get your other animals settled tho too. would it be better for them if they had some time in the new house before bringing a new member of the family in?

I agree with Rabbitpam and Beka – let your current pets get settled in and you need to settle in too.

Ditto Beka and Sarita.  It will be overwhelming for the animals to move anyway.  Just wait till you are more settled to get the pup.  Remember they require a lot of work as puppies and you’ll be busy enough with settling the other animals and unpacking! Good luck with the move!  Very exciting.

We’re in kind of the same situation, although we’re moving in 4 weeks. We were going to get a dog after we moved, especially since our landlord doesn’t allow dogs, but when I saw Dakota at the shelter I couldn’t pass her up. Now the landlord – and his family – are on their way over here to work on the yard and garden. The landlord has decided to move his daughter into the house when the lease is up as she’s getting married this summer. Nevermind that the garden is included in our lease and they don’t have a right to be doing anything with it until July, they’ve told us they’ll be taking it over now. Thanks. They plan on being here for 5 hours, I have no idea what I’m going to do with the dog in that time! Anytime a neighbour saw her I said we were just dogsitting her, so I think I’ll be sticking with that story. What a pain.

I agree that since you’re so close to moving I’d wait to get the pup. The buns are going to sense the stress from the packing etc, and bringing the puppy in now will only add to it for them. Let them get into their new home and then introduce the pup to them.
                  – Annette

wow it’s getting so close now!  very exciting

i’d also wait until after you’re moved in a few days to pick up aren even tho i can imagine you’re just bursting to get her sooner.  personally – being a person who takes great comfort in routine – there would be enough going on that bringing a home new pup before i moved or even in the midst of unpacking would be enough to overwhelm me.  not everyone is like this i realize but even if you’re comfortable in chaos i also think giving your buns & piggies settle-in time first is a good idea.

i hope you don’t have too long a gap in internet service when you move… i can’t wait for pics!

Haha – you sound just like me..”I want it NOW!!” I am hopeless at waitin for anything…esp a pup! So, don’t ask for my opinion…stick to the advise you’re getting from the sensible posters.
