I just bought the breeze litterbox system for my cat.  It’s new by tidycat.  heres the website if anyone wants to look at it.  http://www.breezeforcats.com/productOverview.html

After setting it up for my cat I was thinking that this would be perfect for the bunny if it was safe????  The pee drops straight down into an absorbent pad that is thrown away, when I change his current litter it is like the pee just sits and floats in the bottom of the litterbox and doesnt get absorbed well.  With this system the pee could fall down to the pad and absorb and the bunny cannot get to the pad because it’s in a tray that pulls out.  My only concern is the litter pellets that are used in this system can anyone tell me if they are safe??

If not I may devise my own system of using the pads below to soak up the pee with some kind of a crate on top to keep the litter and poo seperate…  Any ideas on what kind of litter would be good for this type of system.  I’m using  a corn cob litter right now because it works good and is cheap, but i would like to use something else because I’ve heard it’s not the best to use.

Any info would be helpful, but the best thing I could hear would be that the breeze system is safe for bunnies!!!  hee hee

Looks interesting. The site only says that they are non-toxic material and not clay which doesn’t really tell you much. It’s good they are not clay. What do they mean by “non-toxic material” – I’m not sure. You could email and ask them can they be more specific as to what this is made out of.

It does sound like a neat system. It appears that the litter is made specifically for this system too, so using something else probably wouldn’t be as effective.

I would not use the corn cob litter however, it’s really not recommended and may cause impaction if ingested.

You can use any pelleted litter though. I like Lone Star Bedding which is a pelleted pine litter (sawdust basically that is formed into a pellet) and I like it’s odor control but I’m not sure if they distribute it where you live.

it sounds like that litterbox would end up being more expensive as you have to buy the special litter and replacement pads. i much prefer an old-fashioned litterbox and good litter. i use an off-brand pressed paper pellet and i have no problems with odor or absorbency at all.

Oh Brook. Definitely, I’ve read and heard corncob litter is not safe for rabbits. I’d highly recommend switching to Yestday’s news (a pelleted paper product)

That litter box looks great for cats, but I’ve no idea how it would work for bunnies? Anyone else?

I don’t know aboutthe breeze system, again, regarding the pelelts. For us, what works, is to line the litterbox with a couple layers of newspaper, then Carefresh or the equivalent on top, and then hay at one end. I *can* get by for a few days this way by just removing the dirty carefresh from the end…normally I change every day, but this way if I’m a bad bunny mommy, it still works in combo with the newspaper.

I’d say you would have to check with the company about the pellets, but my other concern…it’s gonna be mighty hard to pick those little bunny poos out of there by hand without getting the pellets.

                Good luck!

I am not concerned about the picking of the poop pellets out, The grate is either large enough for the poop to fall and the pellets to stay on top or I have a scooper that would allow the poop to fall through and the litter pellets to be sifted out. I hate any kind of regular litter and having to wash out the litter pan every single day. It stinks and I hate rinsing it in my sink, it makes me vomit!! As long as these pellets are safe, I am going for it! I contacted purina who makes these, so hopefully someone will get back to me on the contents of the litter pellets.

is your rabbit altered yet? there should be little to no urine smell if so. i think most of us here can go 4-7 days before having to change the litterbox with no odor.

hmm I have one of those corner litter boxes with grid, I change it about every 2 days.
Not so much because it smells but because the litter in there is all used up and needs to be replaced
I still use Critter Country, but the other day I bought the Cat Country which is the same but I think
a little bit cheaper for some reason. As for Lola, I think my bf changes her litter box every day. He puts
yesterdays news on the bottom a sheet of newspaper and then timothy hay on top for her.

Sparty is not neutered yet. I don’t notice a smell in the room, it’s just a strong smell when I change it every 5 days. I sometimes wonder if it’s the corncob mixed with the urine that is the smell, because it’s a very odd smell that is strong. I think I will just start by switching his litter, I cannot really afford the breeze system in the next few weeks anyways. I am however going to line the bottom of his litter pan with puppy pads before I put the litter on top. If the regular puppy pads are not safe then I will use the pads for the breeze system, they are large enough to cut in half and get 2 uses out of one. I put one in this weekend and he has not bothered trying to dig it our or anything, so I think it should be safe for him.

you might try to clean the box a little more often if the smell is bothering you. it’s hard when they are still intact b/c the smell is stronger. even with altered buns there is usually a whiff of urine when you dump out the box, but no smell in the air. how old is he? have you talked with your vet about neutering yet?
