› FORUM › DIET & CARE › water crocks for NIC condos?
I decided to start Tucker on a water crock since he doesn’t seem to drink that much from his bottle. When I put a crock in his cage he drinks alot more. But he tends to upset the crock alot. It’s actually not even a crock it’s just a flat bottom ceramic bowl from our dinnerware set. I think if I bought an actual crock it’d be better. I know I’ve seen the ones that attach to the sides of a dog crate used for bunnies who have dog crate homes…would one of these work on a NIC cube condo too?
Otherwise does anyone have any recommendations on a not as dumpable water crock?
Thanks ![]()
I like the heavy round 5 inch ceramic crocks. They are impossible for my bunnies to tip over. Here is a picture of one:

If you get one that is attached you have to make sure you place it where you can easily get to it. They are great in every way but not always practical. I would look at the heavy bowls in the pet stores.
I really like this particular one that attaches to cages:

Larger is better too – I cannot remember what size mine is I think 20oz’s and it works great.
I also have crocks from the dog section – big heavy crocks.
My two have actually broken big monstrous crocks like the one Osrey has shown in the picture. What can I say except that they are VERY creative destructo-buns and I have NO IDEA how they did it. I now have ones that attach to the side of the cage and with a twist, the bowl comes off for easy cleaning (they are called twist & lock water crocks). This is the type I use:

I found mine at my local major pet store chain. You can find the larger sizes (like the 5″ ones as shown) in the bird, cat or dog section. The small mammal or rabbit section usually just has the small ones on display.
And they fit on the NIC condos? I have a perfect spot for it, well for them..I want one on the top floor and one on the bottom..I think Tucker might be a lazy bum of a bun and I don’t want him having any excuses for not drinking his water…so I was going to put it near the door on the top and the bottom so that I can have easy access to it ![]()
Yes they sure do. It is kind of a clamp set-up that you attach once, then the bowl twists off. I used to have the ones that Sarita posted the link to and they were just a pain to always unattach from the side for dumping out/cleaning so I switched. I put mine right next to an access door for easy fill ups and minimal intrusion into “THEIR” space. ![]()
Awesome I will definitely have to check those out..I’ll look around my pet store this weekend for one.
My little guys have a bowl set that I originaly got for my cat years ago.
Because it is on a heavy iron stand with two heavy crocks – they never knock it over or poop in it. They do not chew on the stand either.
They can both reach into the bowls no problem – but that does not stopped Winston from putting his paws in the food bowl. Sometimes he even stands with one paw in the food bowl & one in the water bowl.
Silly wrabbit!
ooh sage cat your buns are fancy! ![]()
i found some stainless steel bowls in the pet store where the bird cage stuff is which have holders that hang from NIC panels. I attached the holders with a ziptie so they’d stay in place. pinky can topple the smaller dish which i use for pellets but the water one is right down low so she can’t get her head under it.
Sage Cat! i love that pic of Winston! the caption could be: Don’t look at me like that…. SOMEBUN has to wash the dishes!!! hehe… cause it looks like he’s elbow deep in dish water!
Tucker… if you’re concerned about water intake you can also wet his greens thoroughly before feeding… he’ll get some water just by default.
I use the same kind of crock as Osprey for veggies and water. Pandy really likes the big one, she often sits in their veggie bowl to my amusement ![]()
I use the same as Scarlet. They like to eat on the second floor and Leo has a tendency to push any ceramic crock across the shelf to the bottom level. I only use the crock for pellets, so I remove it daily. I have mine on one of the doorway panels for super easy access. For my veggies I use a heavy pyrex baking dish. It’s too thick for Leo to mouth to through across the cage and way too heavy to push. Beka: “some bunny”!?! You crack me up that’s one of my favorite words.
Wow Sage cat-you have fancy bowls!! I love them!!
This is what I have…it’s a bit of a pain in the butt to maneuver into the condo without tipping (though I have it down to a science now) but I know they won’t ever run out!!

I have a stanless steel one that clamps on the side of my condo of the NIC cubes. I found it in the bird section of our local pet store. Pet valu I think.
A few years ago when I first spotter those bowls – I thought they were so pretty, but what does the cat care what she eats out of. So, after eying them for about 2 months i broke down and bought them.
When I got them out of the bag and set them up for my cat – she ran over, rubbed her face all over the bowls (marking them), purred like crazy and rubbed up against me a bunch!
I was shocked. She was really happy that I had gotten something new for her!
I am new to the bunny world… What great ideas. Currently I noticed that Oreo 7 months old is not drinking as much water either. She would rather not use her water bottler. Actually she really likes to drink out of coffee cup as long as you tilt it for her. If have a cup of water ishe will try to get your attention if you are not attentive she will knock it over and it becomes your problem Is there any reason why they change. Before Oreo drinks from her water bottle she beats it up.
You know what I found works for bunnies who don’t drink much Yelpot? When I give Tucker his greens now I soak them completely in water and then leave about 1/2 an inch or so of water in his greens dish. Then when he grabs a piece of green he gets the water that it’s soaked with as well. I also find that way his veggies stay nice and crisp all day for him ![]()
i do that too tuckerbunz. my vet recommended it to help keep baby more hydrated and as a wee preventative for bladder sludge. when i started this with baby bun i noticed she liked drinking out of the greens bowl better than her water bottle & since then i haven’t used a water bottle with her at all.
well i have a tan blue ceramic bowl for both his food and water. It’s impossible to tip and extremely easy to clean. It’s great for bunies and you might want to use that one. It costs five dollars but it’s worth it.
Tucker has a water bottle, a water bowl and the greens bowl. He rarely ever uses the water bottle so that will be leaving once I get him a water bowl he can’t tip..right now I am afraid he’ll tip it during the night and have nothing to drink til morning. But..of all three he prefers the greens water..and if the two are next to each other he will take greens from the one and put them in his water bowl…maybe it flavors the water?
Greens water I do not do what is that. SHould I do something like that? Oreo does not like socks sitting on the steps if she is going upstairs she will fling them down the steps.
I just mean the water from his greens bowl…for whatever reason Tucker likes to drink the water more if it has greens sitting in it. LOL he might just be weird though.
