My daughter brought home a 1 year old cat that her house mate saved from being put to sleep, the girl had him for two weeks and didn’t want him, she also threaten to put him to sleep. My daughter asked me if he could come here and we could find him a forever home, I said that I would, once he got here I couldn’t let him go I was so sick of this poor little man being shoved from one house to the next, so we kept him and spoilt him rotten.

We have had him for about 5 months, on Saturday, he seemed to be straining to go for a wee so I took him to the vet, he thought he had a bladder blockage so he anesthetised him and put a catheter in, this morning they took it out and anesthetised him again to insert another one.

I was picking him up tonight, this morning while I was at work they rang my hubby to tell him that they inserted the catheter and he was sitting up fine, half an hour later, he was dead. They were so upset and said all they can think of is that occasionally an animal can die because of the anaesthesia. I cannot stop crying, the poor little man only lived for just over a year and had a not so nice life.

In tribute I want to post some pictures of him, he is so adorable.

        We named him Kai

His ashes will be put in a urn, they make a lovely plaque with his name and the words we want to put on it.

        I loved him lots.

          Lisa,
My condolences on your loss of Kai. You have such a big heart and came to his rescue, making a wonderful life for him no matter how long.
It is VERY obvious from your photos that he is a happy, happy kitty. Is that your jeans he’s snuggling with? He obviously adored you too, and the one on his back says it all. He knew that life never got any better than it did with you.

There’s a Yiddish expression – you Dinna Mitzvah. It means you took a magnanimous action to help with no foreseeable reward. Looks like there was a great, albeit short, reward for both of you, and there is no time limit on love. Rest in peace little Kai.

He loved sleeping lots and snuggling into things, the first pic he is on the lounge the second he is on his cat stand, thats where he ate his dinner.(so the dogs didn’t eat it) the third one I was calling his name to take a photo, the last two I was taking a suit case outside to store in the shed, I had put it down for a few minutes and he loved it so I desided to leave it there for a couple of days for him and the other cats to have a play with, when they got sick of it I put it away. It’s such a waist of a young life.

I’m so sorry.  I certainly know how you feel.  We just had to put our dog down on Friday.  The hardest thing in the world.  It’s just so hard to lose an animal.  There’s just an ache in my heart.  Take care.

I think sometimes nice people are given the task of taking care of something sweet and fragile for just as long as it can continue lasting in this world. It may seem like a waste, but as long as you provided him with a loving home (and from his pictures it’s clear you did) nothing was wasted. You took care of an animal in need, and you let him go knowing he was loved and cared for. Kai was a happy kitty for as long as you had him.

I think it would of been a little easier to take if he was seriously ill, but to know that it most probably was the anethesia that killed him is eating away at me.

Thanks for your comments, they help.

Oh dear. (tears welling up) This just hasn’t been a good time lately for our little furry friends. I’m so sorry to hear about the kitty. But you did what you could do. He had SOME good time with you. Please try to concentrate on that.
You have my prayers that Kai goes to the Rainbow Bridge and is happy again, waiting for you.
I love the photo of him upside down. He looks very content in all of them. And what a handsome little guy!

Scarlet, I managed to copy your candle and saved it in Kai’s picture folder, I keep looking at all his pictures that we took, but in doing that I can’t stop crying. I keep thinking that the female vet may of overdosed him on the anathesia, I guess they would never tell us. 🙁

no i think it is common for some animals to have problems with anathesia, our dog was allergic to it and nearly died from it. The vet told us alot of animals are alergic

Awe Lisa, I think that is sweet you are making an alblum for Kai. I think it is very therapeutic and hon, try not to think about it too much. If you really want to, you can and might be able to retain an attorney, however if you signed a waiver there is not much that can be done. You can have a necropsy done and I would have another vet do it for an unbiased opinion.

I know this vet is one of the best in Western Australia so I wouldn’t take them to court. I also didn’t bother with the necropsy as the vet said it can be very expensive, and It’s not going to bring Kai back again. I spent the money on getting him cremated and put in a urn that I can bury in the cat run.
