Oreo is scratching  and biting the walls why does she do this?   It takes place in the bathroom where the walls and the floor are ceramic.  (she is not confined in this room) she has the run of the houes.

Is there anything  I can get them to chew on.  I have two by fours through out the house, pine cones, little pieces of wood from the pet store that they just is silly, but they prefer the wood that is connected to base boards or funriture.  I have bitter apple that seems to work.  I just don’t think they are being satisfied with the chewing.  Is there anything out there that will satisfy their chewing.

Nursing.  She is still  letting the babies nurse they are 12 weeks old this weekend.  Is that ok.  Mom is seperated from the babies at night.  They are in a cage and Oreo runs the house.  The reason they are caged at night is they just get into to many things.  Plus they are not liter trained but we are working on that.

not sure about the nursing thing.  after her surgery, keep her away from the boys for a month to heal and in that time her milk should dry up.

they might prefer wood that is attached to something (so it can’t get away). can you attach wood to the baseboards so they can chew on that? your other option would be more intense bunny-proofing.

this is what i’ve done… i have NIC grids that go along the wall.  there is a foam pipe cover (the gray thing behind the grid) that conceals wire that also runs the whole perimeter of the room.  also, i’ve actually laid flattened cardboard boxes in the two open corners of the living room to prevent the carpet from getting chewed on.  it’s not pretty, but it works like a charm.  as an added bonus, the cardboard gives an acceptable chewing surface.  once a week i move the end table and sweep the cardboard.  the grid set-up also works to box in the backs of our recliners to prevent her from going underneath.

I am so new to the bunny world.  Where do I buy the NIC cubes.  I have the card board thing every where they just go to another place.  Do most people have their bunnies confined to a small areas.  Oreo is not a caged she has the run of the house.   Oreo will sleep in the upstairs bathroom and comes down stairs to pee and poop in her cage.  Her two boys are the total opposite (they are young 12 weeks old Monday) .  Last night I fell asleep on the couch and the two boys had the run of the house (kitchen, livingroom, upstairs bathroom.  When I got up it was like a poop fest took place.  It was every where.  (lesson learned regardless of tiredness make sure boys are in bed) .  When I forget to do that Oreo will do the same thing.  When they are in bed she doesn’t.  All wires are covered.

I read on line about ages teenager etc.  Do you know how that goes.  For example Oreo is 7 months old what is she considered a baby a teenager?  It was indicated on the Rabbit Society’s page that I can give them branches from certian fruit trees.  Is that true?

here are a couple links about teenage behavior.  this behavior will possibly last until a year or so and then she might begin to mellow a bit.  not all buns completely mellow out with age.  her personality should stay the same.

you might want to revisit bunny-proofing… crawl around ont eh ground and see if there are any hidden dangers and chewing temptations that you might have overlooked before.

HI yelpot!  When I saw your post I thought, uh oh hormonal buns that are exploring!   The NIC panels along the wall are a great idea.  As for the wire cube storage themselves, you can buy them at places like Target and Walmart.  Be sure to stock up on zippy ties (cable ties) and use some industrial-type scissors like tin snips or wire cutters to cut the ends off.  I would not recommend using a utility knife as one of our community leaders (Moobunnay) can tell you - she accidentally sliced herself.  You are lucky the bitter apple is working, most rabbits are not phased by it and actually LOVE it!  Say have you tried untreated natural wicker baskets?  I get the laundry one and flip upside-down and cut a larger hole where the hand hold is and place a towel as the floor and my two go to town on it.
