Ick!!! I was just brushing Edson and held him up to get his stomach and oh my lord what a smell!  He is of course neutered but this smell smelled like a skunk!  Could it have been a spray but nothing was wet??? What is that?  Can they emit odors if they are not happy about what you are doing?  I have NEVER smelled that before!  I don’t think it’s a fart.  What is this smell??????

I think it could be a fart (my dogs could teach lessons on that) or what about his anal glands?

His glands were cleaned 3 weeks ago so it’s not them.  I HOPE it was just a fart! That’s really what I think it was.

It could be scent glands, leftover smelly spray or even smelly urine/feces. My rabbits have a very skunky litterbox when they have some of the more aromatic herbs like cilantro and basil.

This was just a fume that came on suddenly!  His diet is the same, his litter box is cleaned daily.  Maybe because I was holding him up it was a little gas. He has never done this before and I have never smelled anything bad before this one incident.

Kokanee makes a skunky smell alot, even when her glands are clean…I think, maybe the glands open on their own and that’s when you smell it, maybe not when spraying or anything, but when marking?? IDK?

i think you’re right k&k.  and i think it’s totally possible to crack open an anal glad inadvertantly while combing too resulting in a ‘bunny fart’.  lol.

I have noticed w/ all 4 of my buns that whenever they are upset, scared or mad they get that skunk smell so I dont know if its bunny farts or if it is a smelly poo. lol
