Bailey was acting sort of strange last night, but she was still rather spunky. She ate a little bit of her greens but wasn’t fully famished like she normally is,but she was pooping a bit and her stomach sounded normal so I kept an eye on her. This morning she was not her normal spunky self and wanted nothing to do with food and had not pooped since last night. She also was weaker, but it’s hard to tell with her because she is already weaker than most bunnies due to e.cuniculi, but i knew something was seriously wrong so I got her to the vet and by the time we got there, she was in shock. Her temperature was 97 degrees and her gums were gray. But the good news is that the vet just called and said that she is responding well to the IV fluids and the treatment for toxicity. They checked her blood and nothing seemed too abnormal, but something that I learned today from the vet was that rabbits can excrete a toxic form of cecals. Sometimes it can happen due to stress and sometimes it seems for no reason at all. They think that could be the reason (not for sure though) I had been gone for two weeks and just returned, and so maybe somehow the whole thing was too much for her. I don’t know. : (
Anyway, she’s already doing much better, her lips are pink and her temperature is back to normal, and so I will be bringing her home with the IV fluids and then I will bring her back tomorrow to stay for observation. (there is no one there at night, so it’s better to have her in my hands tonight)
Please send full recovery vibes her way!
