I have a lionhead female bunny named, Audrey. I also have an English Angora female as well. Audrey is five months old. When I got her she was 13 weeks, and not tame at all.  I have been sitting in her playpen with her ,petting her and trying to get her use to me. The problem is…Every evening I let the rabbits have run of our den. The Angora is not problem to catch. She is six weeks old and tame…Audrey runs around and is so hard to catch. I have tried letting her go back on her own, she won’t go…even if I put a special treat in there. It takes 2-3 people to catch this rabbit.  A couple of nights I was able to hold some romaine lettuce up to her and catch her that way. She is not falling for that again. When I am in her pen she doesn’t like to be picked up or held and I know most rabbits don’t, I respect that….but I don’t want to have to chase her this way just to put her up. I leave them out for 2-3 hours. What can I do to correct this?

My best thought would be to get a really good, yummy treat like a rasin or carrot and ‘clicker train’ her. Before handing her one of them, give a whistle. Repeat this a few times and make sure you only give it to her in her enclosure. Then, when it is time to go to bed, you can whistle and mayhaps the bun will put two and two together.

Oh, and I forgot to add – cute!

wow… they are beautiful! the guy in the bottom looks like a toy.

you can try training now, but you may have better luck once they mature and are altered. i’ve heard suggested throwing a lightweight blanket over the bun. it makes them stop b/c they’re not sure what’s going on. training would be much better and a long-term solution, but if you get desperate, you might give that a try. it’s frustrating when you need to go somewhere or you’re tired and you can’t catch a bun!

              Your bunnies are GORGEOUS!!!

Guys, I have more of a question than an idea: if nic cubes covered the openings in the den where Audrey hides or slips behind, leaving the play space in there open, would she see her cage as a covered refuge instead? Would it be more attractive to her to go into, so canwalley wouldn’t need to chase her to catch, or if she did, Audrey would run for cover into her own cage? (Am I dreaming of a perfect bunny world?)

When Spockie was serious about not going back, he’d find a way to run under my bed. His record for staying under there out of reach was 4 hours. (The door was closed 90% of the time, but you know bunnies. They can pick locks.)

Actually the blanket thing might work. Noises also work with Holly. If she hears a noise she doesn’t know, she stops and listens.

BTW Your rabbits melt my heart. They are adorable.

                  Ka-POWWWWW!

Sorry my head just exploded from all the excessive cuteness……….seriously, pictures like that should be used to subdue criminals and diffuse hostage situations.

Anyway…….okay, catching an uncatchable bun is a nightmare, been there, chased that. What worked for me was once I got my bunn back in her pen, she got a treat. I stopped giving her treats outside of her cage and made a point of it being her reward as soon as she got inside. Well, you wouldn’t believe how fast she picked up on that. All I had to say was “Cage Time!” and she would bolt from whatever hiding spot she was in, dart by me like a flash, run in her pen, skid to a stop, spin around and periscope at me – “treat please!” and she got one every time.

This may take a while but it does work. Until then, I recommend the blanket

                    Cute pictures!!

Just want to sympathize, my lionhead is a nightmare to catch too-she’s sooo fast…I usually catch her by pointing at her and using my “your in big trouble’ voice and telling her “don’t you dare run away from me!!” and she’ll usually stop running! LOL

Your bunnies are so adorable! I have a lionhead, too and I used to try and chase him/pick him up to put him to bed at night..then I decided to not give him his papaya tablets until after he was in his cage for the night, he caught on pretty quick, so when I say “bedtime” and rattle the jar he comes over and gets in his cage and starts going crazy for his treats, which I give him as soon as I fasten the door. So maybe they just need a little patience and training.

Well play with her when she is out(A lot) and that will get her tired so when you try and catch her she won’t be as hiper so she’ll be tried and easier to catch. If that doesn’t work, when you are petting her, cover her eyes with your chin and pick her up, keeping your her eyes covered take her to her cage or hutch and she is away.

I pretty much try to trick her, I approach at an off angle, as if I’m walking past her, and I don’t look at her…Then she thinks she’s camoflaged and just sits there, then REALLY QUICKLY I grab her That’s pretty much works usually

K&K thats wot i do.. i walk by and pretend im not going anything by her then i grab quick! i think the treat thing is the best idea and also you could block off some of the room slowly bit by bit till she goes in on her own accord, i wouldnt give chase really because i think this is more harm than good especially to a nervous bun
