  Since we’ve done some talking about the economies in various places, I thought a housing comparison would be interesting!
  
  We just got a little postcard in our mailbox about a house for sale down the street from us in Edmonton. “Original owners! This lovely 3 bedroom bungalow has only had one owner and has been well kept over the years. The main level of this bungalow features 3 bedrooms, 1 full bath and a double detached garage. This home still has that retro feel and is just waiting for your modern touches! Why not resdiscover the original hardwood floors that have been protected by a layer of carpet for years! The basement features an in-law suite with kitchen, livingroom, 1 bedroom and a full bath. This home is located close to schools, shopping and would make the perfect starter home for a family! $304,900”
  
  Nice way to spin “the decor is dated and ugly”.
  
  Now for comparison: The house we bought in Winnipeg is 2 storey, full finished basement, 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, double attached garage, huge deck, and the yard is about 50% larger than the house mentioned above, and was listed at $239,000.

  Housing is ridiculous in Maryland. In our neighborhood, a 3 bedroom townhouse, with garage, is selling for $390K.

  Depending upon the location, the house alone will go for anywhere from $350K (If you don’t mind a 50 y/o building with gunfire once in a while) to $800K. And this is without any real yard/land area.

  A typical 2 bedroom 1 or 2 bath in the city here is like $230 000 +…
  Out in the suburb division they are going for $499 000
  
  But then out in the country, like my mini (3 bed, 1 bath, 1 acre of land) I got for $95 000

  Oh jeez. Since I live 10 minutes from San Francisco housing prices are off the roof. A decent 3 bedroom house here goes for 1.6 million +! And then it needs work! Thank god I bought my house in 1994 or I could never afford to live here.

  Just had to jmp in because my fiance and I just signed on a house two weeks ago – we bought new construction, so it hasn’t been built so we get to pick out the flooring and cabinets and brick color etc…its a 4 bedroom, 1.5 story about 2500 sq. ft. (no basements in the dallas area because of the clay soil) and a decent sized yard for $183K. I can’t wait for it to be built! I just moved out here from the LA area, so I was like a kid in a candy store shopping for houses here in TX

  Congrats on the new house! Just make sure you’ve got enough air conditioning power….lol. I don’t know what it was like in CA, but here it gets scorching in the summer. How have you fared in the recent storms? I live 70 miles south, so we just get the tail end of it, but Dallas can really get pounded sometimes. Even during the storms we got this week I spent some of the early am in the rocking chair in the bunny/piggy room because there was a lot of thumping and squealing going on during the lightening and thunder.

  In Mississauga (just outside of Toronto) Hubby and I just moved into a 3-bed, 2-bath, 2000 sf 30 year-old townhouse for $260,000.

  I (Scooter) interviewed at Stanford 6 years ago and wound up withdrawing my name. There were a million reasons why: i.e., Million Dollar Mortgage. They even dangled “well you could buy a house on campus”. Until you read the fine print and realized that they can’t actually SELL any of their land as it’s part of their endowment, and it’s really a 51-year nontransferrable lease. So after a million bucks, your heirs have nothing. Even rent was outrageous. Annette had visions of living in our car, which was a dinky little Honda Civic hatchback at the time. Well, at least the back seats folded in!

  here for a #$@!ty mid terrace 2 bed house (no garage and a tiny back garden) would be about £150k here ($300k ish) a nice house with 3 bedrooms and a garage and a decent garden looking for about £250-300k ($500-600 ish) its ridiculous a flat to rent is £500 a month (about $1000) its just not funny, u cant afford to live here, i am moving as soon as ive finished my training

  Most of my neighborhood is beautiful 1920’s bungalows The price for an average 2 – 3 bedroom (nice yard, detached 2 car garage on ally and basement) is $350,000.
  
  I rent a 2 bedroom / 1 bath bungalow (an office & workshop in the basement, beautiful landscaped yard & deck, detached 2 car garage on ally) for $1400.
  
  My husband is considering a job just north of San Francisco – we checked, a 2 bedroom condo would cost $2500 – $3200 to rent.

  i am considering moving, i dont really care where, usa, ireland, france, aus i dont care at all i just want to leave this dump i hate it here it has gone to pot ugh.. u guys are soo lucky >.<
