I couldn’t see if there was a post about this previously..Maybe it’s the “Spring Fever” or whatever, but Piccolino has started digging in both litter boxes (in and outside cage) and flinging it everywhere…he’s never done this before. Also he is digging at the bottom of his cage, and litter boxes as well as scraping them with his teeth….He has a diggy box full of paper scraps and every evening I throw a few little tidbits of snacks in there for him to find. He has a wood house to chew on, but doesn’t use it and I’ve given him a few other little chew things (twigs, toys, etc, that he doesn’t chew).

Any experience/advice to break him of this habit before it gets bad? Thanks.

I noticed a bun doing that and gave him a short cardboard box with an old phoen book in it he is shredding and tearing and stopped throwing the litter. maybe he wants to tear seems like you are giving him plenty of other options. maybe the phone book thing so he can tear ?

Thanks BT, I leave a phone book out for him every time he’s out…I even put a few snack on the phone book to peak his interest and occasionally he’ll rip a little, but not too much…..he’s never been a digger until just recently. Thanks for the reply give a nose rub to Cotton for me

Pepper started digging last summer when I was traveling so much.  Guess she was bored and lonely.

I went to the $1 store and got a cooling rack – like the kind that you put cookies on after you take them off the cookie sheet – that fit in the litterbox, and just laid it on top of the litter.  She couldnt drag it out because she was standing on it, so this stopped the digging right away/

Wendy’s cooling rack idea could really help – you also could get a covered kitty litterbox or a very deep one, since that often stops the flinging too. it might also be worth switching litters, since i know mine fling some kinds more than others

Well with domino I let it go so I don’t have to trim his nails as often. But if you wish this to stop you might want to give him/her a toy to dig on instead of his litter box both inside and out of his cage

My new rabbit Dylan seems to do this as well.  This morning I came into his room to discover the litter box upside down and the litter covered every inch of his cage.  It was all over his face!  I think he is bored by morning in his cage as he seems to be a very playful rabbit and he has played with every toy I’ve presented him with.
