I have been trying for ages to find the right grooming tool for my bud Bonsai. His fur is incredibly thick as can be and short, and cat carders, furminators etc. don’t work very well on him so I’ve just relied on the comb and back brushing.  To top it off he has such sensitive skin and it can tear easily so I can only groom small sections at a time.  Well I finally found something that works:

JW Pet Grip Soft Cat Shedding Blade

I know it looks very similar to a metal curry brush for a horse, only this is smaller.  My boy LOVES it!  It doesn’t bother him and he actually enjoys grooming!!! All the dead fur I got off of him…oh my word, I think he lost 5 pounds. Anyway, I had to share, it is a major breakthrough for me and I’m sure some of you have already discovered it, but this is my eureeka moment!

thats cool. where do you find the small one like that? for my baby I use furminator his hair is long. I go sections at a time. very very gently yes they are delicate the skin isn’t it.

this morning I go to groom and he runs. I bribed him with a vegie cookie from bb and he jerked it right from my hand and after he was done settled down and let me pet and groom him. while he purrred. silly buns. ohh short thick haired bun thats great you finally found the right tool for the bun and for the job there.

That does look good.  I am having such a hard time combing Edson. I’m using a comb rubber thing I got from the rescue that works so well but he hates it with a passion.  Yesterday was a nightmare.  He ran off flicking me like no tomorrow! I have one of those for the dog and it is incredible.  Need to get one for Edson.

my neighbor swears by this for her dog!  you can find them at pet supply stores around here, tho i’m not sure how the size would compare to the one you have scarlet_rose, or to one used for a horse.  i think i’ll try one out too!  the furminator works great for the dog but i’m too scared to use it on the buns because of how heavy it is.  it’s just not delicate enough.  glad you found something that works so well… thanks for the tip

Only Rucy likes to be groomed. The other two are not fond of it and Jack HATES it. Knowltons, I know the comb you talking about (the one with the little rubber thng intertwined between the teeth of the comb. That works wonders. I also got the furminator, which is amazing, but I think you have to be careful to point that more sideways, away from their skin as it just seems like it could be a bit sharp. I can actually use that one with Jack, but I really can’t do what I want unless I force a real grooming session on ’em.

Thanks guys, I got it at PetCo. But I am sure you can find it at your local pet store chain. The metal part is about as big as your palm. This is not as expensive as a furminator either.

I have never seen this before. How do you use it? Do you brush the hair through the loop?

The metal part has tiny dull teeth and when you drag it accross the fur, it gently pulls out all the dead and loose fur.
