Well with Scooter home from the hospital and recuperating we decided that of course we had to…. adopt a dog!

Introducing Dakota – she’s 4 years old and was just spayed yesterday but they had already cleared her for adoption so…  We weren’t planning on getting a dog, we just went to visit the shelter because we do that from time to time and when I saw her I knew that she was the dog for us.  We went back with Bailey and let them check each other out for a bit – she had pretty much no interest in him at all.  Sniffed him but that was about it.  We’ll have to see how she reacts to the other bunnies when they finally interact later.

Update from Scooter:  Actually we’ve talked about getting a dog for quite some time, and planned on doing this sometime after we move to our new house three months from now.  We just didn’t plan on getting the dog today.  The other bunnies are definitely wary, and Aeryn is thumping a little.  The cats, on the other hand, are most certainly unhappy.  They’ll live.

OMG! That is a BEAUTIUFL DOG! Oh I am so jealous! She looks like my Mackenzie husky, Shadow…only younger and a little less hairy. ^^
Oh how precious! And lolz to your cats, poor things! Their domain has just been usurped! XD
She sure doesn’t look 4 yo. She looks like a pup to me.

Is that a spot on the back of her tongue? I’ve had a few animals like that…one of my black american shorthair cats had a dark spot like a big freckle right in the center of her tongue…and my next one (whom I got after the first died-no relation) has the same spot on the roof of her mouth. They’re like birthmarks. ^^
It’s so cute to see them yawn and that big old spot is just staring you in the face! XD

We did our first brushing/grooming session with her. On the lefthand side of the pic is a regular plastic grocery bag.

HAHAHA. I know what you mean. I have a golden retriever that is furrier than a typical goldie. His hair gets everywhere! I gets in my wallet, shoes, mouth, and even food! I probably get bunny hair in my food too. You cant help it because it gets in the air and cant see it.

note to self… don’t have dinner at sep1118’s house!

lol!  my parent’s house is the same way.  they have the two big furry mutts and the fur is EVERYWHERE.  i love the pups to death, so i don’t mind picking fur outta my food.  at least i know where it came from.

your new pup is beautiful!  she’s very lucky to have you guys.  do you know how long she was at the shelter?  i think it’s awesome when people adopt the older dogs.  anytime a pup gets to the shelter, they’re practically gone the next day.

She was admitted to the shelter on April 3, so not all that long.  They did her spay on the 19th and approved her for adoption on the 10th, which was when we got her.  It’s weird because we’d looked at the shelter’s website the day before and even earlier that day and she wasn’t on it at all, I guess because she hadn’t been approved for adoption at that point.  So we basically got her within hours of her being “on the market”.

Her first night has been quite interesting.  We don’t seem to know each other well enough yet to know that “uhm excuse me I need to pee” signs, so she peed in the house twice during the evening.  Stole Scooter’s meatloaf of his plate at dinner, lol.

                              She is beautiful.

Everything taste better with pet hair in it!

With my 2 husky’s I found that a shed blade worked like a charm to get all the extra fur off. I could stuff a pillow almost every time I brushed them.

K&K, she probably was. She apparently was brought in on the 3rd, had her spay on the 9th, and was approved for adoption on the 10th. She’s just the nicest dog. Now if we could actually get her to eat then I’d be happy.

Oh no is she being picky or too shy to eat yet?

I think she’s just showing signs of the stress. I mean it has to be difficult on her – given up by her owner, put in a shelter, undergoing surgery, and then the next day boom new owner… She did steal the meatloaf from Scooter’s dinner plate last night though and ate some of it (and a little more this afternoon). I’m not awfully worried about it, I’m sure she’ll eat when she’s ready.
