I’ve used this method before as well.
Some bunnies are aggressive and will bite, but for a lot of bunnies, nipping is just their chosen form of communication. If a rabbit nips you, it’s because he wants something – your attention, your breakfast, your pats, etc. What you need to do it teach them that you are the dominant bunn. not them. Whenever he nips you, place your hand on top of his head and shoulders and press it firmly but gently to the ground. Hold for a count of 5 seconds with a stern “NO”. This will tell the bunny that you are in charge. Repeat this every time he nips and hopefully, he will pick up on it fast and begin choosing other ways of communicating, like nudging, touching with his paws, or even periscoping.
Now with that said, I do have a very aggressive little bunny who, even though she has improved greatly, still nips me from time to time. It’s just something I’ve come to accept about her charming personality! Good luck with Luey!
