wow… Meadow has little willow sticks, yours have LOGS!!! they are very beautiful… i know it must be so hard to give them up, but you did so great by them (even losing sleep when they were “in danger” at your aunt’s house) and they’ll be very happy in a home where they can get more one-on-one attention.

Well…..I just had a call about the babies and I’m not sure how to feel about it. I don’t think I want them to go to this home because although it seems like they are doing a lot of research to take on bunnies I am just not sure they are the right people for my girls. They would be living outside in a hutch which is how most rabbits are kept here (very hard to find indoor bunnies homes) BUT they kept asking if they would have to have two. I explained that they should really be kept in pairs and I would prefer it that they stay that way, but apparently a friend had two bunnies that were siblings, neutered but fought. I tried to say that was probably an exception to the rule but if they are living in a hutch it isn’t fair to keep one. They were also bunny proofing the garden, but I said that they would need a covered run and a LARGE one. They said that they didn’t want a rabbit that would scratch their son and put him off having pets later in life (although she knew rabbits would do this – I guess she meant she didn’t want a skittish bunny). Her daughter is 14 but they said they would still oversee the care etc etc and were aware of the need to vaccinate, neuter etc. I just don’t feel comfortable about it.

Anyway, my point was that I got quite upset afterwards because I am going to find giving them up so hard…more so than any other foster i’ve had through here. I guess because I have had them here since birth and they have already been passed around….not to mention that I dread to think what they went through at my cousins because they have certainly not come back the same bunnies. Charlie was always so confident and outgoing and loved being petted but since coming back she is too frightened to come over to me by choice. I’m working with them everyday on getting used to being handled, having me around etc but obviously I just don’t have hours upon hours to give them. I think I would rather keep them here until they have been spayed anyway, it’s only 5 or 6 weeks till they should be ready to be done. Maybe I will have to tell a little white lie should these people ring back….

no i dont think like they seem the right people to have your buns, they dont seem to understand what they are taking on, i wouldnt give my buns to people who were going to keep them outdoors and with young children who they didnt want to get scratched and all that, i think you are right not to give them away to people like that, although i must say that the way u are talking at the end makes me think u dont want to part with them to anyone not just these people.. are u sure u want them to go?

Go with your gut feeling! I think you should keep them until you find a perfect fit that you feel good about.

You could tell her when she phones back that one is sick and you’ll let her know when it’s better, or that you’ve decided to keep them, or …. I’m sure you’ll think of a way to get rid of her without hurting her feelings!

just say that a family member has decided to have them.. thats believable and doesnt bring up any further questions!

I agree that you should reject these folks as the new home. There are way too many considerations you debated with them (plus my first reaction to outdoors was a fast No Way.) You’ve been through so much with seeing what a lousy home can do to bunnies that a little while longer won’t be too bad if you’re waiting for the right humans. I have a feeling that if you met someone who wanted a house rabbit and had good experience as well as the right answers, you might feel some relief and less reservations about handing them over. Hold your ground for their sake. (And Fed Ex me the little black & white one. SO CUTE!!!! When I get one it’s going to look like that I hope.)

                                    thanks guys…

yes fed ex…ha ha I would if I could!! I imagine the customs bill would be huge lol.

Kimberley I would LOVE to keep them forever, but can’t while I’m at my sisters…plus not sure I could afford to in terms of paying out more insurance each month, vaccinations etc…. six already cost me quite a bit in that respect! However, I will not be letting them go to just anyone and would love for them to be house buns. I’m going to keep them as long as it takes to find them the perfect home. Obviously I would love for them to have a forever home now where they would have tons more attention, but they are being very well cared for and probably have better lives than a lot of other rabbits…plus it’s not really that much more work for me.

I would feel a lot more comfortable with people who had experience. I am holding out that my vet friend might have someone who has lost a bunny that is looking for another 🙂

ooo my, those are some serious cuties! the people who called don’t sound like they’d give your special babies the right kind of home. it just doesn’t sit right with me. let’s hope your vet friend will help them find a loving and happy home.

Gosh, I couldn’t imagine preferring one bun over the other. They look so meant to be together forever. How could one make that choice?
Hang on to them, Charlie. They are meant to be somewhere that they can get the love they need. At this time, that is definitely with you. I think they’ll be able to settle better once they are spayed also. By that time, the perfect home will have come along.

*sigh* I do wish it could be with me. Never mind FedEx, I’ll come get them myself. ^^ (I wish!)
*is sending good vibes for the buns forever home*

I say go with your gut instinct – if you feel uneasy about it then don’t give them to that home, otherwise you’ll always be worrying!

maybe you should wait til they are spayed, and then insist on them being house bunnies. i’d be too worried that the person would say they would alter them but then they don’t, or they rehome them shortly after getting them and they’re still not altered. stick your ground about who you want. the ideal would be a house with no or older children, indoor, few other pets if any. good luck.
